Seiko’s First Philippine Edition Prospex Watch is Inspired by the Tubbataha Reefs

Seiko announced this new watch in commemoration of its 55th anniversary!

In 1965, world-leading watchmaker Seiko introduced its, and Japanā€™s, first ever diverā€™s watch dubbed 62MAS. With an automatic movement and water resistance to 150m, it proved its reliability when it was used by members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition from 1966 to 1969.

Fast forward to 2020, in commemoration of its 55th Anniversary, the company via an online event hosted by TV Host and Diver Marc Nelson, featuring watch enthusiasts and thought leaders Dinno Fabian, Mark del Rosario, Atty. Clarence de Guzman, Fed Borromeo, and Ferdinand Aguila, has unveiled the first Philippine-edition Prospex watch inspired by the world-famous Tubbataha Reefs.

Codenamed SRPF33K1 and limited to only 1,000 pieces, the 42.4mm stainless steel watch features Seikoā€™s caliber 4R36 automatic movement with manual winding capacity. Power reserve is approximately 41 hours and is water resistant up to 200m. It comes with a Day/Date display, Stop second hand function and Lumibrite on hands and indexes sitting atop a Blue IP dial and Yellow gradation dial. It comes with a 2-tone stainless steel band with an extra silicone blue band that will be placed inside a special box with engraving of limited edition numbers and the words ā€œPHILIPPINE LIMTED EDITION.ā€

ā€œThis is a very big moment for us because itā€™s closer to home and we canā€™t wait to hear about your adventures with this new timepiece,ā€ said Karl Dy, President of Timeplus, the official distributor of Seiko in the Philippines. ā€œSeikoā€™s pursuit for innovation and technology continues in the Philippines, specifically in the Sulu Sea where one of the most diverse marine ecological systems in the world is located.ā€

Timeless Wonders

Backed by over 130 years of watchmaking expertise and guided by its vision of Always one step ahead of the rest, Seikoā€™s unflagging quest to increase both precision, utility and beauty of their watches has resulted in many world-firsts such as the first quartz watch, first 6-digit LCD watch, first multi-function digital watch, and the worldā€™s first diverā€™s watch.

This year, the company has reached another milestone as they bring together heritage, magnificence, and adventure in a timepiece like no other with the first Philippine-edition Prospex watch. Taking into consideration the New Normal, Dy encourages Seikoā€™s longtime fans and diving enthusiasts, ā€œWhile we are left to imagine where our next destination will be, we welcome Seikoā€™s new Philippine-edition Prospex watch that will soon accompany us in experiencing the beauty of the timeless wonders below.ā€

As part of the 55th Anniversary celebration, Seiko has also introduced the Seiko Prospex SLA043J1, which is a re-creation of the 1965 diverā€™s watch and the Seiko Prospex SPB183J1, which is a modern re-interpretation of the 1970ā€™s diverā€™s watch. These two special limited edition watches are based on landmark designs but have been created using Seikoā€™s very latest technologies and with new and higher specifications. The Philippine-edition Prospex watch is priced at P29,000 and will only be available at Official Seiko Boutiques and Authorized Dealers.
