Seven Things to Know About IKEA Opening in the Philippines, the Largest Store Worldwide

The very first IKEA store in the country is opening soon and here’s everything you need to know.

It's been a while since it was announced the first IKEA store will be opening in the country soon! And after being kept in the dark on what to expect on the upcoming store, we finally got the details on it today at the IKEA Philippines Unboxed Event at the SM Mall of Asia Central Atrium!

IKEA is a Swedish brand that takes pride in providing ready-to-assemble home furnishing products that are both affordable, functional, and of high-quality. It was founded in 1943 by 17-year old Ingvar Kamprad in Southern Sweden, and has opened 422 stores in 50 countries since.

The first IKEA store in the country will be opening end of 2020, together with its e-commerce (online store). Here's everything we know about it so far:

1. IKEA Philippines will be located at Mall of Asia Complex, alongside Entertainment City, and between SMX Convention Center and SM Mall Of Asia Arena.

2. This first IKEA store will be linked to Mall of Asia through direct walkways for easier access.

3. The first IKEA store in Manila will be the world’s largest IKEA, planned at around 65,000 square meters, along with a much larger warehouse, e-commerce facility, and integrated call center. It will also have 2 floors, which will have spaces for a showroom, a restaurant, and the market hall.

4. There will be 9,000 IKEA products instantly available — always accessible in store and online.

5. Yes, there will be food! We can look forward to dining options as IKEA Philippines will partner with suppliers for their restaurant. Swedish Meatballs, anyone?

6. Need inspiration? IKEA Manila will have 55 room sets designed to give you creative ideas on how to incorporate home pieces to make your space look better.

7. Delivery will be available within Greater Manila Area once the store opens to the public.

Bonus: To settle it once and for all, we have H.E. Harald Fries, Sweden's Ambassador to the Philippines onstage today to tell us how exactly IKEA is pronounced! Have you been saying it wrong all this time like us?
