L. Carlos was named after the founder, Lorenza Carlos, an enterprising lady who started peddling flowers in 1911 at the Mehan Garden in Old Manila which is now the site of the Metropolitan Theater. Mrs. Lorenza Carlos pioneered the professional flower selling business in the Philippines. She pursued her floral interests in 1946 by opening a shop at the busy Evangelista Street near the Quiapo Church which was then the convergence area of Catholics in Manila. Because of its strategic location and reliable service, the floral business literally bloomed. In five years, L.CARLOS was to able to acquire its own lot along Taft Avenue corner Escada.

Dangwa is located in Sampaloc on Dos Castillas Street and is packed with open-air flower shops that often sell much of the same fare: roses, daisies, chrysanthemums, geraniums, birds of paradise, carnations, tulips, and other exotic flowers and leafery.
Alongside the flower shops are accessory stalls where you can buy items to help beautify your arrangement, such as baskets, ribbons, sponges, cellophane, and other wrapping materials. The shops are a godsend to those who have, more-or-less, an idea of what they want to create but who refuse to pay for the ready-made arrangements at the malls.
