    Miracle in Cell #7 (2019)

    G Drama, Family
    Cast
    Aga Muhlach, Bela Padilla
    Director
    Nuel C. Naval

I think this movie is successful due largely to the heart-wrenching story. The progression of the scenes though, the direction, the cinematography, to me doesn't seem quite as polished. In terms of acting, Aga was good, but was easily surpassed by his supporting cast. Overall however, it's a pretty decent movie. There wasn't a dry eye in the house, and I think that's a testament to how good the story was.

    Frozen II (2019)

    G Adventure, Animation, Comedy
    Cast
Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff
    Director
    Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee

I like it, but for me it didn't surpass the first movie. But as most sequels are terrible and not needed, this one really isn't so bad. The story and voice acting were truly great, but the songs were bad, they were too mature and not catchy at all. I can barely remember anything, unlike in the last movie where I was googling every song after the movie to study the lyrics. My favorite was probably the tribal chant, which was brought in from the first movie, that's how much I didn't the like the music in this one.

The story is quite nice, and ties in nicely into the first movie, tho... Read more

    Hello World (2019)

    G Animation, Romance, Sci-fi
    Cast
Haruka Fukuhara, Minami Hamabe, Takumi Kitamura
    Director
    Tomohiko Ito

It's just okay. Watchable, even. I think the film tried to do too much, but ultimately failed to deliver a seamless coherent storytelling. The movie pulls inspiration from other films within the last decade or so for its visual narrative, but I'm not sure it really did the film any favors except make an already confusing story even more convoluted.

    Mary, Marry Me (2018)

    PG Comedy, Romance
    Cast
Toni Gonzaga, Sam Milby, Alex Gonzaga
    Director
    RC Delos Reyes

Mary, Marry Me is largely just drivel. Ugh. It’s very reminiscent of a typical Pinoy rom-com, but not one of the good ones mind you, which is especially disappointing when I found out it was produced by Ten17P, who I have amazing respect for after seeing last year’s Siargao. The jokes were unbelievably corny and cringe-worthy, the acting was trite at best, and the story was as predictable as ever. I didn’t believe that the cast had any chemistry, and even the blooper reel at the end credits wasn’t funny. Smh. Barely 2⭐️ over 5.

    Aurora (2018)

    PG Horror
    Cast
    Anne Curtis
    Director
    Yam Laranas

Aurora deserves an award for sound. It’s very Hollywood, very dramatic and suspenseful, and sets the movie on the right note from the get go. Cinematography isn’t bad either. The ever gorgeous (even with little to no make up) Anne Curtis’ shots were just as haunting yet beautiful as the landscape. She also carried the movie quite well. I think where this movie had the most problems is in the story. It got kind of muddled and convoluted somewhere in the middle towards the end. Also, spoiler, there’s hardly any horror scenes; the movie having to rely mostly on cinematography and sound to... Read more

    Ang Larawan (2017)

    PG Comedy, Drama, Musical
    Cast
Rachel Alejandro, Paulo Avelino, Joanna Ampil
    Director
    Loy Arcenas

I loved it. It’s the first time I’ve seen an actual Filipino musical. I didn’t even know we were capable of producing such kinds of movies! It was almost like watching a play. The quality of Ang Larawan is so good, it’s comparable to foreign musicals. The production, the costumes, the music; everything was wonderful to watch. And I loved how, even though it was set in the past, it wasn’t exactly about the country’s history like other period pieces. It was just this story about two sisters set during that time, and how their lives were trapped by the pressures that come with having ... Read more
