    Last Night (2017)

    R-13 Drama, Romance
    Piolo Pascual, Toni Gonzaga
    Joyce Bernal

I don’t really get how the rating of this movie isn’t any higher because I thought it was fantastic. What a great year for Philippine cinema. This movie felt a little bit like an indie movie. It’s not your typical Star Cinema rom-com. It gets a solid 4 rating for me for sure, if not more. The cinematography is absolutely beautiful, and it showed our city in such beautiful, picturesque light. Although sometimes I got confused with the timeline. It felt like the movie was set in the seventies from the beginning. I think maybe it needed more modern touches to make it seem like it was actua... Read more

    The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017)

    G Action, Animation, Comedy
Justin Theroux, Dave Franco, Jackie Chan
    Charlie Bean

I give this a 2.5 rating. It wasn’t particularly bad, I just think everything felt a little bit half-baked. The token characters, the predictable storyline, everything felt a little bit flat and was kind of meh.

My Little Pony: The Movie (2017)

    G Adventure, Animation, Comedy
Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman
    Jayson Thiessen

With lowered, kid-level standards, it was surprisingly okay and pretty tolerable even for grown ups.

    Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

    R-13 Action, Adventure, Comedy
Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Julianne Moore
    Matthew Vaughn

It’s really an enjoyable movie, although it doesn’t offer anything fresh. I think I prefer the first movie. Still, really enjoyable.

    Wonder Woman (2017)

    PG Action, Adventure, Fantasy
    Gal Gadot
    Patty Jenkins

It's greatness is a little bit overrated in my opinion, but it was still certainly an enjoyable watch. The fight scenes were cinematic. Story-wise, I felt there was room for improvement still, but it had a nice pace to it. The comedic moments peppered in between were a nice touch. Gal Gadot, I thought seemed too modelesque at first to play the iconic Amazonian princess, but she definitely proved me wrong. She had just enough of that bright-eyed wonder a woman of strong, unbiased, simplistic ideals would have if thrust into a (then) modern world, to be believable. She was simply a joy to watc... Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

    PG Action, Adventure, Sci-fi
Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista
    James Gunn

It was pretty decent. I thought the first one was better, but overall, in spite of some moments that dragged, it still managed to entertain.

    Dear Other Self (2017)

    PG Comedy, Romance
Jodi Sta. Maria, Xian Lim, Joseph Marco
    Veronica Velasco

Let me preface this by saying on one hand, it wasn't completely awful that it failed to make me feel good after leaving the cinema. By all means, it was a decent enough film. But on the other hand, this movie fails in a lot of other aspects too. Problems with acting aside (although personally I found Jodi a joy to watch), I think one of the movie's biggest problems was in the cinematography, in that it just wasn't very good. For a movie about travel and that actually had foreign location shots, this movie did not invoke a sense of wanderlust within me, which is such a missed opportunity in m... Read more

    A Silent Voice (2017)

    PG Animation, Romance
Miyu Irino, Saori Hayami, Aoi Yuki
    Naoko Yamada

It was good. It tackled relevant issues in today's youth and was able to execute it quite nicely. There are some plot holes, but they didn't take away from the overall quality of the movie.

    Ghost in the Shell (2017)

    PG Action, Crime, Drama, Sci-fi
Scarlett Johansson, Takeshi Kitano, Michael Pitt
    Rupert Sanders

What an amazingly awesome and exciting idea of futurism this story has. It's one that draws you in, and makes you wanna explore how else the world is like in this version of the future. Ultimately I feel like the movie suffered from the shortcomings the anime had, and that is the utter lack of humor. Not even humor, there were just no breaks for much needed levity at all. It was way too serious and that made it kinda boring to the point where I almost fell asleep. The vision for this version of the future world that they came up with is definitely something that makes you wanna watch the a... Read more
