On August 8, 2008, everyone wanted to do something extraordinary to commemorate a date widely perceived to be lucky. Well, Manila’s discerning club set certainly made the right decision by showing up at A-Venue in Makati on 08/08/08 because they got to witness the next big thing in trance, Super8 and Tab. Talk about being in the right place at the right time.
On 08/08/08, Bigfish together with global clubbing leader Godskitchen once again brought a mighty foreign dance act to enthrall Manila. Fans of trance who attended the Godskitchen bash in 2007 and saw world-renowned DJ John Askew spin his magic were clearly not disappointed by Super 8 and Tab, the exciting new trance act that took over the turntables this time around.
Following Bigfish resident DJ Johnboy Lee’s party-starting set, Finland’s pride Miika Eloranta & Janne Mansnerus, better known by their cheeky yet ingenious aliases Super8 and DJ Tab, took their places behind the decks. Although the pair hasn’t reached trance superstardom in this part of the world yet, Manila’s clubbers clearly know good music when they hear it because they cheered for the duo as soon as they dished out their first track. No wonder these dudes were personally handpicked by trance icons Above and Beyond to join their label Anjunabeats—these guys can excite trance fans not only in their Scandinavian homeland, but anywhere else where the spirit of trance music runs high.
Super8 and Tab gave an inspired performance, working with a refreshing dynamic that produced a set profuse with stirring melodies and edgy effects. When Miika and Janne launched into their brilliant new track “Elektra”, the enthusiastic crowd lapped up the entire number, showing their appreciation by clapping along in time to the beat.
Super8 and Tab share that they were charmed by Manila’s urban appeal and its people’s friendly nature as soon as they arrived. In fact, they are already thinking of coming back to the country soon, even possibly with their girlfriends. Judging by the overwhelming reception at the party last 08/08/08, they just might squeeze another awesome gig on their next trip here!
In between events, music-loving fans can tune in to Bigfish Radio every Saturday from 9pm to 1am on Magic 89.9 in Metro Manila and on Killer Bee stations nationwide to satiate their dance music fix.
Next month, Bigfish brings another electronic music icon your way: Chicane. The popular act responsible for beautiful Balearic anthems like “Offshore” and “Sunstroke” will be turning up the party mood at the World Trade Center in Pasay City on September 28, 2007, Saturday. Get in on the action by contacting 6327762 or 6348238 for advanced tickets and reservations or going to www.bigfishmanila.com for more information. Chicane frontman Nick Bracegirdle and his live band will definitely be making that a night to remember.
Yep, you heard that right. Chicane will be playing as a full band. See it to believe it.
