Break the (Ja) Rule

He is a businessman, movie star, fashion designer, philanthropist and political activist. But it is the rap artist and songwriter in Jeffrey Atkins, better known as Ja Rule, that we would get to see most of when he comes to Manila for a one-night engagement on April 23 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Music fans who have been following his rise as hip-hop's top contender would have gotten a good load of his rap style and lyrical flair since his debut album Veni Vetti Vecci hit the charts big time. He has since released four other albums (Rule 3:36, Pain is Love, Last Temptation, Blood in My Eye), sold over 15 million copies worldwide, and landed five Top 10 chart appearances.

In his latest work R.U.L.E., Ja Rule dictates the sound of rap music packed with more power and elevated to new heights. Already a certified gold, R.U.L.E. is off to a fast start with two hot tracks: Wonderful featuring R. Kelly and Ashanti, and New York with Fat Joe and Jadakiss.

Another scorching number is Caught Up that has Ja Rule performing with Lloyd, another one of The Inc. Records' A-list Urban stars. He is also featured in the track Where I'm From.

In Last of the Mohicans and Gun Talk, Ja Rule collaborates with Black Child. In Bout My Business, he shares the stage with Cadillac Tah, Black Child and Young Merc. R.U.L.E. also boasts of guest appearances by City High's Claudette Ortiz in Get It Started, and the team of Trick Daddy and Chink Santa in Life Goes On.

The rest of the track includes What's My Name, The Manual, R.U.L.E., Never Thought, and Passion, along with the three skits Stripping Game, True Story and Weed.
