Thor: Ragnarok is an epitome of comic book fun movie. It’s colorful, thrilling and hilarious. Though it may not be the funniest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Guardians of the Galaxy is still on top), the commitment to the conceit makes it thoroughly entertaining. Set after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is thrown out of the beam while being transported back to Asgard. In an alien planet called Sakaar led by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), Thor is held captive and pitted against his fellow Avenger Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in exchange for his freedom. Along the way, he meets an Asgardian Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). Determined to escape from Sakaar, Thor recruits Banner and Valkyrie in order to return to Asgard to confront the goddess of death Hela (Cate Blanchett) and the impending ragnarok in Asgard. Director Taika Waititi incorporates his trademark of humour to the film making every joke a laugh out loud moment. An incredible ensemble of cast is a major plus for the picture. Chris Hemsworth transforms into the god of thunder and carries the character very well and Tom Hiddleston is still undeniably charismatic as Loki. Marvel fans are in for a treat with the presence of Mark Ruffalo, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum and some surprise cameos. Stealing the show is Cate Blanchett who effortlessly breathes life to the goddess of death. She is one the best villains in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor: Ragnarok is undoubtedly a grand payoff to its series. It’s practically everything a comic superhero film ought to be. Make sure you come in to cinemas early to catch the new Black Panther trailer and don’t forget to stay after the movie as there are two more scenes: one in the mid credits and another after the credits.
