Cicely Tyson

Cicely Tyson (born December 19, 1933) is an American actress. She starred in The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, for which she won two Emmy Awards and was nominated for a BAFTA Award. Tyson was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and the Golden Globe Award for her performance as Rebecca Morgan in Sounder. For this role she also won the NSFC Best Actress and NBR Best Actress Awards. Throughout her career she has been nominated for nine Primetime Emmy Awards, winning three, and numerous other accolades, including a Drama Desk Award. She recently appeared in The Help, and is currently starring on Broadway inThe Trip to Bountiful for which she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress.
