Piling Obrang Vidyo, also known as POV, is one of the most anticipated annual film competitions for young and aspiring filmmakers from different universities nationwide hosted by UP Cinema, a film organization based in the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines Diliman. For the past 16 years, POV continuously serves as an avenue for young aspiring filmmakers to challenge the boundaries of Philippine cinema by providing them a platform to exhibit their works on the big screen and to reach a wider audience including film industry professionals and enthusiasts.
The year 2020 has given everyone an opportunity to look back and appreciate the past and the present that people most often than not overlook as they all focus on what is in store for them in the future. This 2021, UP Cinema will be taking a trip down memory lane as they feature student short films that have been showcased on the big screen since the beginning of POV in 2004.
In celebration of the 17th year of POV, UP Cinema proudly presents “POV: BAL1K7ANAW,” a film screening and fundraising event that will commence on February 27, 2021 (Saturday), 7:00PM at the UP Cinema YouTube channel. There will be four (4) sets of films with one (1) set open and available for viewing for one whole week. All the films featured in this year’s POV are free and open for public viewing and will last for four (4) weeks.
As UP Cinema relive these stories of the youth from the past 16 years, they are also extending their hands to the youth of today in helping them fulfill their desires. Eighty percent (80%) of the proceeds from this film screening and fundraising event will go to their beneficiary, Tulong Kabataan – UP Diliman, a relief and rehabilitation alliance of the youthーindividuals, organizations, student councilsーthat centers on providing relief and assistance to communities, who face different calamities all over the Philippines.
