Mortal Engines
Premieres on: December 5
A post-apocalyptic adventure film based on a novel of the same name, Mortal Engines is centered on Tom Natsworthy, who finds himself fighting for survival after he encounters fugitive Hester Shaw. They, then, ally with each other to change the course of their future. Directed by Christian Rivers, it stars Robert Sheehan, Hera Hilmar, Hugo Weaving, and more.
The Possession of Hannah Grace
Premieres on: December 5
Starring Shay Mitchell, The Possession of Hannah Grace chronicles the events after an exorcism claims the life of a young woman. During a graveyard shift, morgue worker Megan Reed receives the disfigured cadaver. When she starts having horrifying visions, she is led to believe that the body is possessed by a demonic force. The film is directed by Diederik Van Rooijen.
Widows
Premieres on: December 5
From Steve McQueen, the same director who gave us 12 Years a Slave, and Gillian Flynn, author of Gone Girl, comes Widows. It's a modern-day thriller centering on four women who all have a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. It stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, and Cynthia Erivo.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Premieres on: December 13
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Man introduces the audience to Miles Morales, a teenage guy from Brooklyn, and the idea of limitless possibilities of a "Spider-Verse" where more than one can wear the mask. The film is from the same minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, and stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, and more.
Aquaman
Premieres on: December 15
Starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard, Aquaman tells the origin story of the half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry who goes on a journey that would let him discover and face who he really was born to be – a king. The film is directed by James Wan.
METRO MANILA FILM FESTIVAL 2019 ENTRIES
Premieres on: December 25
Aurora stars Anne Curtis, who portrays a young woman whose mission is to find the dead bodies of the passengers of the ship Aurora which crashed in their hometown's rocky shores. The film is directed by Yam Laranas.
Fantastica is produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films. It stars Vice Ganda, Dingdong Dantes, Richard Gutierrez, Jaclyn Jose, Bela Padilla, Maymay Entrata, Edward, Barber, and more.
Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles
Starring Coco Martin, Vic Sotto, and Maine Mendoza, Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles revolve around three adventurous police officers – "puliscredibles", as they call it – who go on a mission to stop the crimes in their area. It's directed by Mike Tuviera.
Mary, Marry Me marks the first time sisters Toni and Alex Gonzaga will be starring together. In the film, they portray sisters who find themselves fighting over a man, played by Sam Milby. The film is from TEN17P, and directed by first-time director RC Delos Reyes.
Regal Entertainment's official entry to this year's MMFF, One Great Love is about 3 people whose lives are interconnected in a story of seeking for love and letting go for someone you love. It stars Kim Chiu, Dennis Trillo, and JC De Vera, and is directed by Eric Quizon.
A horror film from Horseshoe Studios, Otlum is said to be director Joven Tan's tribute to Shake, Rattle, and Roll. It centers on a group of friends who dares each other to stay in a haunted house. The film stars Ricci Rivero, Jerome Ponce, and John Estrada.
Rainbow's Sunset stars Eddie Garcia as Ramon Estrella, an 84-year old retired senator who comes out as gay, and temporarily leaves his wife and family to care for his best friend/lover dying of cancer. The film is directed by Joel Lamangan, and stars Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Tony Mabesa, Tirso Cruz III, Aiko Melendez, and Sunshine Dizon.
The Girl in the Orange Dress follows Anna, a conservative girl, who wakes up in a 5-star hotel room with the biggest actor in the country. Having no memory on how she got there, she must figure her way out of the hotel and avoid the fans and media swarming the hotel. the film stars Jericho Rosales and Jessy Mendiola.
