Inspired by the culture and people of Southeast Asia, Raya and the Last Dragon is set in the world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons live in harmony. It centers on Raya, who goes on a mission to track down the last dragon after the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity from monsters known as the Druun 500 years ago. As she goes on her journey, she realized that it takes more than just dragon magic to save the world.

The film comes from directors Don Hall and Carlos Lopez Estrada, with Paul Briggs and John Ripa co-directing. Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim penned the script for this project. It will also feature the voices of Kelly Marie Tran as Raya and Awkwafina as the dragon Sisu.

It’s the first Disney film inspired by Southeast Asian culture, as well as the first to feature a Southeast Asian lead.
