Take your blindfolds off Bird Box fans, a sequel is coming your way!
Netflix's adaptation of Josh Malerman's 2014 post-apocalyptic novel was truly a hit especially on social media with memes and the Bird Box Challenge making it resonate more on the audiences.
After five years on the bookshelves and a few months in film, a sequel for the novel is finally coming this October 1 titled Malorie. As the title suggests, the new book will center around the main character that in the adaptation was played by Sandra Bullock.
In an interview with Esquire, author Malerman explained that he wanted to revisit Malorie's character after watching his novel brought to life by Netflix.
“I wanted to get to know [Malorie] even better. At the end of the movie, I turned to my girl Allison and said, ‘I want to know what happens next!’ and she’s like, ‘Well, you know, you could make that happen,’ so it really was this warm feeling.”
But it seems that questions from the first novel will stay unanswered even after the release of the sequel.
“In the time between Bird Box coming out and the time since I’ve been writing Malorie, I’ve been asked a ton of times: people want to know what happened with Boy and Girl,” he said to Esquire. “But as much as I care about Boy and Girl, this isn’t their story. The Bird Box world is Malorie’s story, and I wanted to know more about her.”
With the success of Bird Box, we might just expect another adaptation for its sequel but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Check out Malorie when it hits the shelves on October 1!
