The Story:
The Politician follows Payton Hobart, once an ambitious high schooler running for student body president, now running for State Senate against a veteran politician. The series dives into the dirty world of politics where they uncover double agents, unearth scandals, and do whatever else they need to do in order to win. Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Judith Light, and Bette Midler star in Season 2.
Watch this if:
You loved Season 1, or you maybe miss Glee, or if you like literally any Ryan Murphy show. This show is fast and snarky and it doesnāt go easy on the pop culture references so it helps to really like that kind of satirical humor.
What I think:
I donāt know what it is about Ryan Murphyās campy cast of characters that you canāt help but root for, but it always winds up being a very entertaining show. Season two of The Politician is no different. While last seasonās antics were a little on the crazier side, this season was slightly more grounded in its political satire but just as, if not more, insane and ridiculous.
Iām not going to go through their many twists and turns. But, I will say this: itās funny, impressively charming, and really easy to watch. While the show had a lot to say, it doesnāt really add to anything thatās already been said before. One thing I did like was the dash of hopefulness at the end. The cast, as usual, has razor-sharp timing but has Bette Midler basically acting circles around everyone else.Ā
The Politicianās sophomore run is a really fun ride for its morally corrupt protagonists, even if it possessed no real insight into the world theyāre satirizing.
The Politician, Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix. Watch it here.
