‘Child’s Play’ Gets a Reboot From Producers of ‘It,’ The Killer Doll Returning in Cinemas June 20

The modern-day re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic stars Aubrey Plaza as Karen, a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabrie Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.

ChildŹ¼s Play is a contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, ChildŹ¼s
Play follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel
Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.

Directed by Lars Klevberg and produced by Seth Grahame-Smith
and David Katzenberg (the producers of It and It: Chapter 2). The upcoming horror film will introduce something new and relevant for the contemporary audience, and present to the big screen one of greatest horror villains of all time.

“We got excited by what it would mean for Chucky, if he were not just a kidŹ¼s toy but a really high end AI product, like something youŹ¼d see from Apple or Amazon or Google — a child companion," Producers Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg shares. "What would happen if something with so much computing power and connectivity went bad, what would the possibilities be?” The producers then got excited about
having something new to say, well-aware of the responsibility they had to longtime
fans.

Chucky of this smart tech age is a next-level killer doll, the 2019 version playing on the fears of today.  “We really do give our lives to these machines, everythingŹ¼s in a cloud now and we are possessed by these belonging,” says Emmy nominee and Tony nominee Brian Tyree Henry, who joins the cast in the reboot of Child's Play. “ThatŹ¼s something thatŹ¼s so fascinating about the reimagining of Child's Play — even the adults are susceptible to the Child's Play of it all…we are pretty much slaves to
technology.”

Child's Play opens in Philippine cinemas June 20, 2019.
