“Poseidon” Grosses P31.2-M at No. 1 in RP

No rogue wave can tip Warner Bros.’ "Poseidon" over, as the special-effects-packed action-adventure opened at No. 1 in the Philippines with a nationwide five-day (May 10-14) weekend gross of a staggering P31.2-million, claiming the third biggest opening of the year in the process. This was announced Monday by Francis Soliven, general manager of Warner Bros. Pictures which distributed the film.

Starring a powerhouse cast led by Josh Lucas and Kurt Russell, “Poseidon” chronicles the escape attempt of a small group of survivors who find themselves unlikely allies in a battle for their lives after a rogue wave capsizes their luxury cruise ship in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. Determined to fight their way to the surface, they must forge a path together through layers of wreckage as the ship continues to sink. Bonds form quickly in this journey of vertical climbs, dead ends and sheer drops. And trust proves vital.

Clearly defying the stormy weather, the top ten cinemas that posted the highest grosses are SM North EDSA (P1.63-M), Glorietta 4 (P1.59-M), Gateway Cineplex (P1.405-M), SM Megamall (P1.402-M) and Power Plant Mall (P1.28-M).

They are followed by Greenbelt III (P1.03-M), Robinson’s Ermita (P1.01-M), Greenhills (P1.00-M), Alabang Town Center (P806,889) and SM Manila (P769,888).

Still playing across the Philippines, “Poseidon” is distributed by Warner Bros., a Warner Entertainment Company.
