The popular expression, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” conjures up a veritable jackpot of shed inhibitions, insane indulgence, and gleeful debauchery.
In the upcoming romantic hilarious comedy “What Happens In Vegas” vouches such expression as Cameron Diaz stars opposite Ashton Kutcher where they play a mismatched couple who got married on a whim and won tons of dollars in the 24-hour city of Las Vegas.
Q: Ashton can be pretty wild on a movie set. How was he with you?
A: We didn’t really have time to be too wild and unpredictable. This film was a lot of work and we worked long hours and we had a great time, but of course there were moments where we kind of pushed some of the comedy that probably won’t make it into film. The characters would play off each other tit for tat — one goes after the other and the other one goes after the first one. It just goes back and forth on screen. So that energy was a lot of fun and that dynamic was fun for us to play because making a film is a partnership. Although we have to be on the same page, there is still a place for improvisation.
Q: Have you seen the movie?
A: Yes, and I’m very happy with the film. It’s very, very funny. I feel like it’s going to be another film that people are really going to enjoy. They are going to laugh their asses off. It’s got some really fun stuff in it. I’m very proud that we made such a great and fun movie, which is what we all set out to do.
Q: Do you go to Vegas on weekends?
A: On weekends any of number of friends would call and say, Vegas? It does happen that way living in LA, since we’re so close. You could go for a night, so it’s one of those things where you get a phone call, someone saying “what about Vegas tonight?” Okay, sounds good. And you just jump on a little plane and you are there. You don’t sleep when you are there.
Q: Do you always get noticed in place like Vegas?
A: I get noticed, especially when there are tens of thousands of people in one place. It’s just a matter of how you deal with it. I just go and have a good time with everybody else and everybody just accepts that I’m there.
“What Happens In Vegas” opens May 7 in theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.
