Heads up Marvel fans, because the first trailer for the stand-alone film of Black Widow has just been released, and just like an assassin, we didn't see it coming!
Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff, had been around the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man 2 and has always been considered as one of the main protagonists of the Avengers films. Next year, we're finally getting a stand-alone film for Natasha, and we're getting a glimpse of her 'family' before the Avengers.
Check out the first Black Widow trailer below:
In the trailer, we see Natasha getting a head-on fight with Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, which in the Marvel comics continuity, is the second woman to carry the Black Widow title. Meanwhile, other Russian key figures in the comics also made their MCU debut in the Black Widow trailer, including Melina played by Rachel Weisz and David Harbour's Alexei, aka the Red Guardian, who even showed-off his all-red costume. We also get to see Taskmaster, the main antagonist of the film who has the ability to instantly copy someone else's fighting style upon seeing it.
The official synopsis for Black Widow has not yet been dropped, but it has been revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that the film's storyline is set between the Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War films.
Black Widow is also the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Phase 4, which also includes titles like The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as the Disney+ series Loki, WandaVision, The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, and What If?…ā
Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland, and is set for release on May 1, 2020. For more updates, you can also check out Marvel Studios on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
