Heneral Luna—the historical action epic about the life and death of General Antonio Luna—which enjoyed a nine-week theatrical run in cinemas nationwide is finally launching the much-anticipated DVD. Fans of Jerrold Tarog’s critical and commercial hit have clamored relentlessly for an official DVD these past several months, cementingHeneral Luna’s position on the list of this year’s biggest cinematicsuccesses. Aside from a record-breaking run in cinemas,it also holds the distinction for being thecountry’s highest grossing independent film, with a total domestic gross of P258 million. In the United States, the theatrical release of Heneral Luna set the record for being the highest grossing locally produced independent Filipino film to play in select cinemas for four weeks across the U.S.A.
Acclaimed by critics in both the Philippines and America, Heneral Luna is also the country’s official Oscar entry to the 2016 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
Following the success of the film comes another milestone: Heneral Luna on DVD, which features English subtitles, and bonus features like a full official soundtrack playlist and the director’s commentary.
With the release of the DVD, the film’s producers, Tuko Film Productions, Buchi Boy Films and Artikulo Uno Productions hope to make Heneral Luna more accessible to Filipinos everywhere, particularly the youth.
“We’ve always had students and young people in mind when we made the film and we are very grateful for all the support and love they have given to Heneral Luna. Releasing this DVD is our way of reaching out to more people, so that they will be able to learn, discover, and appreciate our country’s rich history. The Heneral Luna DVD is distributed by Magnavision Inc. It will be available in stores this December 2015.
