A Bold New Chapter in a Post-Apocalyptic World
Nearly three decades after the rage virus first devastated humanity, 28 Years Later plunges us back into a world teetering on the brink of collapse. The remaining survivors have carved out a fragile sanctuary on Holy Island, an isolated landmass cut off from the mainland by a causeway that floods daily — a natural defense against the infected.
At the heart of the film is the family of Jamie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), his resilient wife Isla (Jodie Comer), and their curious son Spike (newcomer Alfie Williams). Their journey beyond the island’s safe borders unravels terrifying truths — and new, evolved horrors lurking in the shadows.

Critics Applaud: Grit, Gore, and Unexpected Heart
The film has been praised for pushing genre boundaries while delivering both gore and gripping emotional depth:
Hollywood Insider raves:
Although this film is extremely gruesome and bloody, there are still quite a few moments where we sit with the characters at their most vulnerable, and they play out in such beautiful ways, some that are rarely seen in big, studio movies anymore.”
Collider highlights a haunting evolution:
“While it technically isn’t considered canon anymore, Weeks Later provides some necessary context for this development, which we saw 28 Years Later take to another level as it showed how the infected had evolved, with one creation sticking out as perhaps the most frightening portrayal of a zombie/undead creature seen in a very long time.”
IGN celebrates the standout performances:
“Newcomer Alfie Williams ably shoulders the harrowing plot, flanked on either side by similarly strong performances from Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer.”
