Brace Yourself for Thai Horror: “Don’t Sleep” Haunts Ayala Malls Cinemas Exclusively Starting June 4

Ready to Be Terrified?
Ayala Malls Cinemas is summoning another wave of terror to Philippine theaters—this time, through the supernatural Thai horror-thriller Don’t Sleep. From the creative minds behind Pee Nak and Oh My Ghost: The Finale, the film will haunt local screens starting June 4, exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas. The movie is rated R-16.

A Deadly Game Unleashes Ancient Spirits
In Don’t Sleep, a group of unsuspecting friends stumble upon a mystical version of a Ouija board—known as Pee Tuey Gaew—and awaken something they were never meant to contact. As terrifying spirits emerge from the shadows, the characters are forced into a nightmarish struggle to survive.
Set in modern-day Thailand, the film draws on ancient folklore and explores universal themes of guilt, grief, and redemption, all while keeping the horror deeply psychological and chillingly real.

Director’s Vision: Fear in the Shadows
Director Krittanut Watcharanuntagul offers a masterclass in building dread. “We shot the film with low-key lighting to keep much of the danger hidden in the shadows, allowing the audience’s imagination to fill in the gaps,” says director Krittanut. “Each location is designed to feel claustrophobic, as though the walls are closing in on the characters. I wanted to create a sense of isolation and entrapment – whether the characters are in a cramped bar or navigating the ghostly spirit world, they can’t escape their fate.”
From claustrophobic locations to eerie dreamlike sequences, every frame is crafted to make viewers feel trapped—emotionally and physically—alongside the characters. With minimal CGI and a preference for practical effects and distorted lenses, the film keeps its ghosts disturbingly tangible.

A Thai Horror Tale with Universal Appeal
Don’t Sleep was co-written and co-directed by Sathanapong Limwongthong and Watcharanuntagul, whose passion for Thai folklore shaped the script. Drawing from local ghost stories and traditional spiritual beliefs, the duo have woven a tale that’s both uniquely Thai and globally terrifying.
Filmed entirely in Bangkok over 15 intense days, the movie captures the tension between old-world mysticism and urban modernity. The haunting score—a blend of traditional Thai instruments and jarring horror motifs—adds another layer of unsettling atmosphere.
