Ahoy, mates!
Captain Jack Sparrow is back on the big screen in a new fearless adventure as the same iconic anti-hero we have grown to love. In the all-new Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, Jack finds himself being chased by an old nemesis who has escaped from the Devil's Triangle along with his deadly ghost sailors set to kill every pirate at sea. Particularly, good ol' Captain Jack.
His only survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon with the help of two new characters – Carina Smyth who is a brilliant astronomer and Henry, a young sailor in the Royal Navy. But that's really not the only thing that makes the film franchise even more exciting.
According to the filmmakers, the latest installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series took inspiration from the first installment of the series, The Curse of the Black Pearl's script and tone. 1. POTC is one of the highest grossing movie franchises.
The Pirates of the Caribbean film series is the twelfth highest grossing movie franchises of all time, with box office earnings of $1,279,211,336 domestically and $3,710,254,215 worldwide.
2. POTC: Salazar's Revenge is the 5th movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.
The other 4 are Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006), Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007) and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
3. There are three actors in the film franchise who have been in all five movies.
Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally are the only actors to appear in every movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
4. POTC: Salazar's Revenge is said to be the last film in the franchise.
This is the second film in the franchise to be marketed as the final installment of the franchise. The other one is Pirates of the Caribbean: At Word's End which is the fourth film in the franchise.
5. Will Turner is coming back!
Since Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007), Orlando Bloom is set to mark his first appearance as Will Turner in ten years. Welcome back, Orlando!
6. Five promising actors were in the running for the Henry Turner character.
Ansel Elgort, Brenton Thwaites, Taron Egerton, George MacKay and Sam Keeley were all in the running for the role of Henry Turner. So sadly, yes, that only leaves us with the imagination of Ansel Elgort as a young sailor!
7. Chemistry is the reason why this actress got her role.
The five finalists for the female lead were Lucy Boynton, Gabriella Wilde, Jenna Thiam, Kaya Scodelario and Alexandra Dowling. After Brenton Thwaites was cast, the studio did chemistry tests with the actresses to see who best fit the role. Thus, giving the role to Kaya Scodelario.
8. POTC: Salazar's Revenge is the shortest movie in the franchise.
At two hours and nine minutes long, this has the shortest running time all of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films. It is 40 minutes shorter than the franchise's longest film, At World's End (2007).
