Songs for the Road: Beat The Traffic Blues with this Roadtrip-Worthy ‘Cars 3’ Mixtape

This essential driving playlist will be your feel-good sounds for road trips and traffic jams, and get you revved up for the new race adventures in 'Cars 3.'

Traffic can be a bummer– scratch that – a real pain. But being on the road and driving your car doesn't have to always be appalling. Remember those times when all you needed was the radio blasting your favorite tunes to keep you company? There's also the thrill of the speed, car engines pumping to give you an unforgettable ride when you're on a joyride with your buddies heading to your next adventure.

Racing into cinemas soon is another feel-good movie to keep you on the brighter side of driving: Cars 3. Opening on July 26 nationwide, you can soon skip the heavy traffic and head to your favorite cinemas to catch your favorite shiny red race car legend on the big screen once more.

Cars 3 is the third installment in the Cars film franchise and is the sequel to Cars 2 which was released in 2011 (whaaaaat, it's been six years already?!). The film is centered on Lightning McQueen, who is suddenly pushed out of the racing scene. To prove that he's still the best racing car in the world, he will need the help from a young technician and inspiration from the late Doc Hudson Hornet with, of course, a few unexpected turns.

We're sure you can't wait to see what this new adventure holds for McQueen. But for now, we've come up with this list of feel-good music to make traffic jams bearable and road trips even more fun. Have a listen to these five songs from the film before it races to the cinemas:

1. Run That Race – Dan Auerbach

The Black Keys member based the original pop-rock song with a retro vibe on the storyboards and the plot of the movie. He shares that the song is about never giving up and always trying your best.

2. Kings Highway – James Bay

Imagine being on a convertible on a road trip listening to this cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's Kings Highway, you'll surely want it on repeat. It's on their eighth studio album, Into The Great Wide Open, which was released in 1991.

3. Glory Days – Andra Day

This 1984 Bruce Springsteen classic is performed by R&B/Soul singer Andra Day accompanied with the piano and guitar. In 1985, it became the fifth single released from his massively successful album, Born in the U.S.A.

4. Drive My Car – Jorge Blanco

An arrangement very similar to the original The Beatles song, Jorge Blanco performs Drive My Car which is on the 1965 album Rubber Soul and also on the 1966 album Yesterday and Today album. It is a cheerful song written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon which has been covered by many artists over the years.

5. Freeway of Love – Lea DeLaria

Orange is the New Black actor Lea DeLaria covers the highly popularized song from Aretha Franklin's 1985 album Who's Zoomin' Who? It was one of the biggest hits in the U.S. topping the Hot R&B Singles chart for five consecutive weeks. Try not to dance while listening to it!
