Vengeance is returning to Gotham.Ā Warner Bros. Pictures made that revelation plus a couple of first-look debuts during the studioās presentation April 26 at CinemaCon, the annual convention of movie theater owners held this year in Las Vegas.
‘The Batman’ Sequel
Warner announced that director Matt Reeves has begun scripting a sequel to āThe Batman,ā which he and Dylan Clark would also return to produce.Ā The news comes on the heels of the current film passing the $750 million mark at the global box office.Ā The announcement was made Ā by Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, and Reeves himself, who joined Emmerich onstage during his opening remarks.
HBO Max recently announced a series centered around Colin Farrell as The Penguin, derived directly from the universe launched by the āThe Batman.ā Reeves is currently reteaming with J.J. Abrams and DC universe veteran Bruce Timm on the streamerās upcoming animated series āBatman: Caped Crusader.ā The filmmakerās prior films include the hugely successful āPlanet of the Apesā franchise, the acclaimed fantasy horror film āLet Me In,ā and the sci-fi horror hit āCloverfield,ā among others. Reevesā additional credits include the popular TV series āFelicity,ā which he co-created with Abrams, as well as the series āOrdinary Joe,ā āLift,ā āMother/Android,ā āAway,ā āTales from the Loopā and āThe Passage,ā among others.
‘Don’t Worry Darling’
DirectorĀ Olivia WildeĀ unveiledĀ the first look at Harry Styles and Florence Pugh in the psychological thriller āDonāt Worry Darling.ā
In the film, a 1950s housewife (Pugh) living with her husband (Styles) in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets.
During her presentation, Wilde shared the idea behind āDonāt Worry Darling,ā which is inspired by āInception,ā āThe Matrixā and āThe Truman Show.ā She calls the movie āa love letter to movies that push the boundaries of our imagination.ā
Slated to open in the Philippines this September, āDonāt Worry Darlingā is Wildeās follow-up feature to 2019ās coming-of-age comedy āBooksmart.ā
‘Barbie’
A first-look imageĀ ofĀ the much-anticipated live-action adventureĀ āBarbieā starringĀ Margot RobbieĀ was also revealed at CinemaCon.Ā Ā Ā The photo features Robbie behind the wheel of aĀ pink convertible, flashing a megawatt smile and donning a polka dot headband.
Directed by Academy Award-nominee Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with her partner Noah Baumbach, āBarbieā opens in Philippine cinemas in 2023.
