Slam Dunk remains to be one of the most beloved childhood anime series for many Filipinos. After over two decades, the anime franchise is finally followed up with a new anime movie coming to Japan’s theaters in the Fall (September to December) of 2022.
Check out the first teaser for the upcoming film below:
Created by Takehiko Inoue, Slam Dunk follows the story of the high school delinquent Hanamichi Sakuragi. After being turned down by a girl for a guy on the basketball team, Sakuragi has grown bitter about the sport. But everything changed when he meets the cute Haruko, who asks him if he likes basketball, to which he answered, “I love it!”
Hoping that one day he’d get a score on Haruko’s heart, Hanamichi trains to become part of their school’s basketball team and finds a rival in Kaede Rukawa, the rookie superstar who Haruko has a crush on.
Slam Dunk was first released as a manga in 1990, and was adapted into an anime series that ran from 1993 to 1996. Four films have also been released during the series’ run.
For the 2022 film, Takehiko Inoue will serve as director and writer, with the film’s plot yet to be revealed. Check out its official website for more details.
