The fun-filled, educational family movie “Night at the Museum 2” is at a P54.11 million-high on its first ten days of nationwide release in the Phils.
The movie starring Ben Stiller proved there is already a solid following from the previous hit “Night at the Museum” when a broad mix of audience from kids to adults went in to see new historical figures brought to life. In the sequel, Ben Stiller is at odds when his museum friends called from the archives of the Smithsonian Institution, the largest museum in the world. Once at the Smithsonian, Stiller as Larry Daley must help his friends escape from the most evil tyrants the world has ever known – Kahmunrah (Hank Azaria), Ivan the Terrible (Christopher Guest), Napoleon Bonaparte (Alain Chabat) and Al Capone (Jon Bernthal). With his newfound ally pioneer aviatrix Amelia Earheart (Amy Adams), Larry must find a way to beat the tyrants before sun up.
“Night at the Museum 2” which opened last May 15 (Friday) is well within the list among mall goers despite the frenzied shopping prior to the nationwide opening of classes this June. As per the official file of the movie’s local distributor, Warner Bros. - Trinoma ranks no. 1 in box-office receipts at P3.15 million. This is followed by SM Mall of Asia, P2.93 million; IMAX Theater, P2.33 million; Powerplant, P2.25 million and Alabang Town Center, P2.24 million.
Still within the top 20 theaters are SM Megamall, P2.18 million; The Block/SM North Edsa, P2.01 million; Glorietta 4, P1.95 million; Eastwood, P1.52 million; Greenbelt 3, P1.50 million; Theatremall, P1.38 million; Shang Cineplex, P1.37 million; Gateway Cineplex, P1.29 million; Ayala Cebu, P1.22 million; Robinson’s Ermita, P1.15 million; Robinson’s Galleria, P1.09 million; SM Cebu, P1.02 million; Filinvest, P954, 808; SM Baguio, P851, 072 and Market-Market, P812, 766. Not far from the 20th is SM Clark which grossed at P777, 861.
