10 Halloween-Appropriate Movies for Scaredy-Cats to Enjoy

Halloween is upon us once again, and if you're one of those who are not into putting on their best and scariest costume, there's no better way to spend the season than by staying home, watching a spooky movie with popcorn in hand. For the scaredy cats though, finding the perfect not-so-scary movie can be tricky as every Halloween movie out there is either too frightening or too corny for our liking. 

So to those who are on the lookout for a film that's the perfect mix of scares and laughs, we're giving you a rundown of 10 not-so-spooky-films you can add to your Halloween watch list! 

1. Zombadings: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington
Directed by: Jade Castro

This film stars Martin Escudero as Remington, who was cursed as a child to become a gay man when he turns 21. Years later, their town becomes the target of a serial killer who murders gay men. Remington then starts to notice changes in himself, from speaking "gay" to having a new set of fashion preferences. He must then try to solve the murders, all while also figuring out how to break the curse. Joining Escudero are Lauren Young, Kerbie Zamora, John Regala, Janice de Belen, and Roderick Paulate. 

2. Hello Ghost
Directed by: Kim Young Tak

Hello Ghost is a 2010 supernatural comedy film which follows Sang Man who starts seeing ghosts after multiple failed suicide attempts. To get the ghosts to leave him alone, Sang Man must help them fulfill their last requests. The film stars Cha Tae Hyun, Kang Ye Won, Lee Mun Su, Ko Chang Seok, Jang Young Nam, and Cho Bo Geun. 

3. Shaun of the Dead
Directed by: Edgar Wright

A film which premiered back in 2004, Shaun of the Dead is about Shaun who is living an easy life until their town gets invaded with zombies. Because of this, Shaun and his best friend realizes that they need to protect his girlfriend Liz, and his mother. The film stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, and more. 

4. Hocus Pocus 
Directed by: Kenny Ortega

Released back in 1993, Hocus Pocus has become a cult film and a staple whenever Halloween's close. It centers on Max Dennison who accidentally frees a coven of evil watches when she goes on exploring an abandoned house with his sister and their new friend. The kids must then steal the witches' book of spells to try and stop them from being immortal. It stars Omri Katz, Thora Birch, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy. 

5. The Addams Family 
Directed by: Barry Sonnenfeld 

A 1991 film based on a cartoon by Charles Addams, The Addams Family is a dark supernatural comedy film about a bizarre and aristocratic family who reconnects with a long-lost relative who happens to be connected to a con artist who want to swindle the family out of wealth. It stars Anjelica Houston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman, and Tony Azito. 

6. Ghostbusters
Directed by: Ivan Reitman

Ghostbusters, which premiered in 1984, is about a group of scientists who, after losing their positions at a university, starts a ghost-catching business in the city to earn more money. It stars Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, and RIck Moranis. 

7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show 
Directed by: Jim Sharman

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 horror-comedy musical film starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick. It tells the story of a young engaged couple who gets stranded in the rain and seeks for help at a nearby castle. There, they encounter and get seduced by a mad transvestite scientist, Dr. Frank N. Furter, who's creating a muscle man in his laboratory. 

8. Halloweentown 
Directed by: Duwayne Dunham

Premiered in 1998, Halloweentown centers on a family who follows their grandma to Halloweentown. There, they learn that they come from a family of witches, and that it's the only place where the supernaturals can live normally. It stars Kimberly J. Brown, Debbie Reynolds, Judith Hoag, Joey Zimmerman, Emily Roeske, and Phillip Van Dyke. 

9. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Directed by: Henry Selick

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a dark animated film inspired by a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982. It follows Jack Skellington - known as the "King of Halloween Town - who gets to go and enjoy Christmas Town. Liking the idea of the festivities, he attempts to bring the holiday to his home, causing some comical consequences. Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, and Ken Page are some of the voice cast in the film. 

10. Casper 
Directed by: Brad Silberling

A film based on a comics character - Casper the Friendly Ghost - Casper is about a kind ghost peacefully haunting a mansion when a specialist and his daughter  Kat arrives to communicate with him and the other spirits. Casper then falls in love  with Kat, but their relationship gets more complicated because of his state, and all the antics of his dead relatives. It stars Christina Ricci, Malachi Pearson, Bill Pullman, and Cathy Moriarty.
