The film, which is set to start production in summer this year, will be penned by Julian Fellowes and The Book Thief's Brian Percival. It will also be bringing back the main cast from the series, including Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendon Coyle, Maggie Smith, and more.
Downton Abbey first aired in 2010 and ran for 6 seasons. It's set in the fictional country estate of Downton Abbey in Yorkshire, between the years 1912 and 1926. It shows the lives of an aristocratic family, and their servants during the post-Edwardian era. The series also shows the effects of important events in history – just like the sinking of Titanic, the First World War, and the Spanish Influenza.
The series won awards in various award-giving bodies, including three Golden Globes, 15 Emmys, and 69 Emmy nominations.
