PPP 2018: Here’s Everything You Need to Know About This Year Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino!

Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is returning this year!

After a succesful run last year, Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino is coming back for this year! And as their Facebook announcement goes, it's set to be bigger and grander for 2018!

Happening from August 15 to 21 – just a few days after the Cinemalaya Film Festival – all the cinemas in the country will be screening a selection of Filipino films as a way of giving filmmakers a bigger platform for their works and a chance to screen them to a wider audience. 

Ready to plan which films to see already? Here are the 8 films showing for this year's festival: 

1. Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wifi 
Directed by: Jun Lana

Ang Babaeng Allergic sa Wifi follows Sue Ramirez' Norma, a teenager who is obsessed with social media. When she is diagnosed with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (which means she can't be around any gadgets), she is sent to somewhere without signal, where she needs to deal with a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend (Jameson Blake).

2. Bakwit Boys
Directed by: Jason Paul Laxamana

A musical film by Jason Paul Laxamana, Bakwit Boys is about a band of four boys whose hometown is ravaged by a super typhoon. While their music is put on hold as an aftermath of the calamity, a girl comes around, helping them record their song. It stars Devon Seron, Ryle Paolo Santiago, Nikko Natividad, Vance Larena, and Mackie Empuerto. 

3. Madilim ang Gabi
Directed by: Adolfo Alix Jr. 

Adolfo Alix Jr.'s Madilim ang Gabi was first screened at the Toronto Film Festival. It stars Gina Alajar and Philip Salvador as a couple who go around the streets of Manila to look for their son who is a drug addict. The cast wil also be joined by Felix Rocco and Cherie Gil. 

4. Pinay Beauty
Directed by: Jay Abello

Starring Chai Fonacier, Jay Abello's Pinay Beauty is a film which will focus on the Filipino's typical idea on what pretty is. Fonacier will be joined by Edgar Allan Guzman, Nico Antonio, Janus del Prado, Hannah Ledesma, and Mariko Ledesma. 

5. Signal Rock
Directed by: Chito S. Roño
Starring: Christian Bables

Signal Rock follows Christian Bables' Intoy who takes care of his parents when his sister moved out to work overseas. Since he lives in a remote area in Samar, the only way he could contact his sister is by going to strange rock formations on the island. The film's cast includes Christian Bables, Daria Ramirez, Nandin Josef, Mon Confiado, Elora Españo, Keana Reeves, Sue Prado, Ces Quesada, and more. 

6. The Day After Valentine's 
Directed by: Jason Paul Laxamana

The Day After Valentine's is Laxamana's second entry to this year's PPP. It follows a distraught Kai (JC Santos) who meets Lani (Bela Padilla), a confident woman who seems to have the answers to questions about life, probably what he needs to fix his life. 

7. Unli Life
Directed by: Mike Lavelo

Unli Life stars Vhong Navarro who discovers a magical bottle of whiskey which would let him go back in time. The perfect solution that would help him get back with his ex-girlfriend, he goes from different eras, hoping that he could go back to the time where he could prevent their break-up. Joining Navarro in the cast is Winwyn Marquez. 

8. We Will Not Die Tonight
Directed by: Richard V. Somes

We Will Not Die Tonight centers Kray (Erich Gonzales), an underpaid stuntwoman who returns to do one last job with ther former gang only to be trapped in a hellish underworld. The film stars Alex Medina, Paolo Paraiso, Thou Reyes, Maxine Eigenmann, Jamie Dumancas, and Marela Torre.
