Rising fresh and powerful from its break at the Sundance Film Festival, and boasting its high scores on review sites like Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, and Metacritic, this year’s ultimate horror film which got all avid film critics “shookt” is finally coming to Philippine Cinemas!
Hereditary follows the story of the Graham family as they face the loss of their grandmother. The teenage granddaughter, Charlie (Milly Shapiro), exhibited quite a
connection with her, and “weird” things take place. The story hinges on certain mental challenges running in the blood of the family, but the greater secret is what’s behind it, which proves more sinister than just being “sleepless”. This forces Annie (Toni Collette, The Sixth Sense) along with the rest of the family, to be increasingly worried about sudden random disturbances – and the story takes the audience deeper towards the innate evil. What was peaceful and subtle, or rather calming grief and silence, eventually becomes a force to be reckoned with, bringing the audience to darker realms with the characters discovering a way of escaping the unfortunate inheritance they have been blessed (or cursed) with.
That mix of family drama all cushioned with the horror from the supernatural and dark spirit world becomes the perfect mix for a horror flick to click to its Filipino audience. It is also ably supported by a stellar performance of the cast led by frontrunner Toni Collette who has the film critics saying she gave “one monster performance” depicting the life of her character, Annie, on-screen. We hear Oscar bells ringing for her performance!
We’re in the midst of a golden age of grown-up horror, Hereditary premieres JUNE
20 in major cinemas nationwide. It is distributed in the Philippines by Reality Entertainment.
