5 Fan Theories to Keep You Hyped for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

We're giving you five fan theories to check out before the release of 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' this week!

It's not too long now until we finally get to see the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise! Set after the events of Star Wars: The Force AwakensStar Wars: The Last Jedi follows the story of Rey after she discovers the exiled Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, as well as the war between General Leia Organa's Resistance and the First Order.

While everyone is still kept in the dark as to what will happen in the film or if any of their questions from the past films will be answered, there are also some specially dedicated fans who love dissecting every plotline and speculating what will happen next, creating fan theories on their favorite characters or on the story itself!

Curious to know some of the awesome things Star Wars fans have been talking about? Here are 5 *plausible* fan theories to devour before the film opens in cinemas on December 15. Which one do you love the most or think will probably come true?

1. Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter

Aside from having a close physical resemblance to each other, there are also fans who believe that Rey parallels Luke's storyline. Both were left on deserted planets with little information about their families, and they both own a floating vehicle – Rey her speeder and Luke his landspeeder – that are both important in their films.

The Lightsaber has also called to Rey back when she was in Takodana, and it has always been known that the Lightsaber only calls to the Skywalkers – first to Anakin, then to Luke. She was also able to take the Lightsaber during the fight with Kylo Ren, despite the fact that he has more experiences in lifting objects with the Force.

2. Luke dies, making Rey the last Jedi

Since the title of the film has been announced, people have started speculating who The Last Jedi could be. From the many theories that fans have, there's also a possibility that Luke dies fighting with the First Order, maybe even in the hands of Kylo Ren.

Luke's death will then lead to Rey accepting her destiny, becoming the last Jedi.

But then again, Jedi could be plural and refer to two people, so having Luke and Rey as the last Jedi would also make sense!

3. Snoke is a Force parasite

Nobody really knows where the Snoke came from, where he's been all along, and what his plans are. Some people, though, think that he's a "Force Parasite" – someone who uses the Force to take over another body to become more powerful, maybe even immortal! There's a whole video explaining the theory so if you got time and want to dig deeper, you can check it out!

There's also this theory claiming that although Snoke wants Kylo to be the host for him to utilize his powers fully, he's grown an interest on Rey especially since she's more vulnerable to inhabit, and is more powerful when it comes to using the Force.

4. Kylo Ren and Rey are siblings

Way before Disney bought Lucasfilm, there existed a so-called "Extended Universe," which already has the continuation of the 6th film. However, when Disney decided to rebuild the Star Wars universe, the Extended Universe became the Star Wars Legends which fans still refer to whenever they create theories on the franchise.

Han Solo and Leia Skywalker had three children in the Star Wars Legends – Anakin Solo, and the twins Jacen and Jaina. Fans were then quick to speculate that Kylo Ren is Jacen and that Rey is Jaina, especially with all the similarities and parallelisms that the two character have! In the story, Jaina becomes (and remained) a Jedi, and her brother becomes Darth Caedus who starts a civil war within the Galactic Alliance.

5. Snoke is Darth Plagueis

One of the many theories fans have regarding Snoke is that he is the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Plagueis. First introduced in Revenge of the Sith, Darth Plagueis was a Sith Lord who could "create life" and was killed after being murdered by his apprentice.

According to the fan theory, Plagueis isn't really as dead as everyone thinks and is actually Snoke, considering the resemblances in their appearance – tall and ghoulish humanoid aliens. Fans also claim that the "musical motif" made by John Williams for Plagueis in Revenge of the Sith and Snoke in The Force Awaken are similar, leaving them to think that there are connections between the two characters.

Ready to put these theories to test? Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15 in cinemas nationwide. You may visit here for screening schedule.
