Christmas is only a few weeks away from now, and while everyone is already planning out their reunions, the holiday also marks the start 43rd run of the Metro Manila Film Festival! And just like every year, cinemas in the country will be screening 8 Filipino films of different genres - from romance to action, fantasy to drama.
While it's admittedly not as revolutionary and progressive as last year's lineup, we're pretty sure there's still a good number of films worth catching in the cinemas this Christmas. Here are all 8 films which will screen starting December 25, 2017:
Ang Panday Directed by: Coco Martin Starring: Coco Martin, Jake Cuenca, Gloria Romero, and Jaime Fabrigas
Based on the comic book by Carlo J. Caparas, Ang Panday revolves around the blacksmith Flavio Batungbakal who needs to save humanity and fight the evil that is his nemesis, Lizardo. This film is also Coco Martin's directorial debut.
Deadma Walking Directed by: Julius Alfonso Starring: Joross Gamboa and Edgar Allan Guzman
A film based on the Palanca-winning comedy of the same name, Deadma Walking is about a terminally ill gay who asks his best friend to help him stage his fake death, wake, and funeral as his dying wish to see what the other people will say about him.
Siargao Directed by: Paul Soriano Starring: Erich Gonzales, Jericho Rosales, and Jasmine Curtis-Smith
Shot in Siargao, this film tells a love story about three people who find themselves in the island, looking for love, happiness, and belongingness.
All of You Directed by: Dan Villegas Starring: Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay
In Dan Villegas' MMFF entry, Gab and Gabby are two individuals who agree to be in a committed relationship despite their opposing views on love and marriage. After three years of being together, they find themselves asking where their relationship is headed, if it's still meeting halfway or going in different directions.
Haunted Forest Directed by: Ian Loreños Starring: Jane Oineza, Jameson Blake, Maris Racal, and Jon Lucas
Haunted Forest is about Aris and his daughter Nica, who experiences weird things while her father is away to investigate a murder staged similarly to his childhood friend.
Meant to Beh Directed by: Chris Martinez Starring: Vic Sotto and Dawn Zulueta
Vic Sotto and Dawn Zulueta portrays Ron and Andrea, a couple who is married out of their will, and how they try to make their marriage work.
Ang Larawan Directed by: Loy Arcenas Starring: Rachel Alejandro, Joana Ampil, and Paulo Avelino
Ang Larawan is a musical based on Nick Joaquin's play "A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino". Set before World War II, the film tells the story of two sisters, Candida and Paula Marasigan, who struggle financially after their father Don Lorenzo Marasigan becomes a recluse. Looking for a way to solve their money troubles, the two sisters are torn between donating their father's self-portrait to the government and selling to to an American.
The Metro Manila Film Festival will be kicking off on December 25, Christmas Day.
