The salon’s name was inspired by the Norwegian play “A Doll’s House,” where the main character, Nora, transforms into the ideal woman of a new era. The salon is symbolically named NORA because it aims to help women achieve their ideal image and transform their lives through beauty. Founded in Aoyama, Japan, in 2007, NORA was envisioned as “a salon where women who enjoy life would gather.”

Hidekazu Ando (Ando-san), founder of NORA Japan and CEO of Nora Hair Salon Philippines, along with his team, takes hairstyling seriously. They focus on thoroughly analyzing customers’ hair concerns, offering immersive shampoo experiences, creating innovative and signature styles, and performing precise layering—key traits of a Japanese hair salon they’re very proud of. Ando-san understands that people value their hair highly, which is why he shares, “being entrusted with something so precious gives me great joy.”

At NORA, beauty goes beyond just haircuts and styling. It’s about building confidence and satisfaction that become part of their customers’ lifestyles.

Another feature unique to Nora is the emphasis placed on the shampooing process in their shampoo bed. More than just a relaxing massage, it also encourages hair growth, stimulates blood flow, and to some extent, has lifting properties. “We strive to make shampooing a relaxing and special moment,” says Ando-san. Nora also offers a hair spa. 

Hairstyling and coloring trends

At NORA, the goal is for customers to feel that their entire lifestyles have improved through the uplifting power of beautiful hair. By paying close attention to the clients’ desires, face shapes, and complementary styles, NORA can transform their looks with the latest hairstyles and coloring techniques, staying ahead of global trends like the 3D hairstyles that emphasize hair flow and create dimension through layering and highlights. Nora was also a pioneer in Milktea coloring, mixing the color palette in the right proportions to produce soft and dreamy highlights.   “We place great importance on two things: delivering trending hairstyles and ensuring safety and trust,” shares Ando-san.

A native of Kyoto, Japan, Ando-san has been a hairstylist for thirty years. He studied hairstyling at university for two years, taught at beauty academies in the USA and China, and is also a nationally licensed stylist in Japan.

Additionally, Nora Hair Salon will operate alongside NORA Lab, its own hairstylist training academy set to launch this August in Shangri-La Plaza. Two more branches are opening this year, increasing the total number of Nora Salons to six, which represents a 100% growth from its original number.
