Ristorante delle Mitre is a place for Bishops to dine. But as Bishops too must feed their flock, so is everyone invited to partake of the Lord’s bounty.
La Mitra ( plural in Italian is “le Mitre”) is the Bishop’s hat or miter which he wears at liturgical celebrations. It used to be the prerogative only of the Pope as symbol of his office as Pontiff, or as high priest, until it was extended to some prelates and later to all Bishops.
Symbolically, it recalls the head-dress the Lord instructed Moses to make for the sons of Aaron to give “dignity and magnificence” (cf. Ex.28:40). It therefore indicates the fullness of the priesthood which the Bishop participates in Jesus Christ.
