Just like its Saturday counterpart, the Legazpi Sunday Market has been around for years now. Located in the heart of Makati with over 100 vendors, it is the neighborhood's go-to spot where you can get your fill of comfort food, cakes and pastries, native products, unique finds and more. From Filipino to Japanese and Middle Eastern to European food, it definitely is a trip around the world when you visit. Here are some must-try dishes to check out:
1. Rodrigo's Roast Beef
If you're looking for something quick and easy to eat, grab Rodrigo's Roast Beef Grilled Cheese (P200/full sandwich; P120/half sandwich) with four kinds of cheese and a generous slices of roast beef.
2. Suki-Gyouza
Juicy on the inside, crispy and golden brown on the outside, these Japanese pan-fried dumplings are great appetizers you can munch on while contemplating on what else to order at the market. Suki-Gyouza makes it affordable too at only P60/4pcs, P80/6pcs or P150/12pcs!
3. Kapoké
This humble stall aims to bring Aloha to the Pinoys. You can choose between fresh salmon or tuna, or both! They have four signature sauces – Fuji (spicy shoyu-based), Lilo (honey sauce), Kapoke (peanut butter-based) and 6100 (Negrense-inspired sauce with annato and ginger) – to choose from. And every bowl is just P200!
4. Ping Gu Mushrooms
If you're looking for something light to snack on while checking out the other stalls, Ping Gu's deep fried Mushroom Fries (P100) is the way to go! You can even choose from eight sauces – vinegar, sweet chili, gravy, garlic mayonnaise, barbecue, salsa, ketchup and hot sauce – to dip the fries to.
5. Japsy Takoyaki
One of the stalls with a long queue, Japsy offers Takoyaki (P70/5pcs; P90/8pcs; P135/14pcs), ball-shaped Japanese snack made of a wheat flour-based batter with minced vegetables and octopus. After being cooked in a special molded pan, they finish it off with garlic mayo, peppered mayo and wasabi mayo drizzle.
6. Chang Thai
Craving for authentic Thai dishes? No problem! Legazpi Sunday Market has a few stalls serving Thai cuisine but we were curious what Chang Thai has to offer since they only serve two dishes – Pad Thai and Crispy Catfish Salad. We ordered the Pad Thai (P150) which is packed with flavor and topped with chunks of chicken that's great for sharing!
7. Louie's Singaporean Dishes
For only P155, you get a sumptuous and complete meal of Hainanese Chicken Rice – one quarter chicken (a choice of roasted or traditional), broth and chicken rice – served with a side of dark soy, ginger and chili sauce. Make sure you order the Mango with Sticky rice for only P110!
8. Evet Köfte
Looking for something to wake your tastebuds up? Head over to this stall serving grilled Turkish meatballs (P120/regular; P180/big; P180/with rice) mixed with different spices, served in fresh Pita bread with tomato sauce and vegetables, drizzled with garlic sauce. You can also buy a bag (P300/16pcs) so you can cook and enjoy in the comforts of your home!
9. Don Churro
Soft, light and crisp, you can enjoy these freshly fried Churros Plain (P50/3pcs) dusted with sugar and cinnamon or you can dip them in Davao Chocolate (P150/6pcs; P100/3pcs) to cap off your visit to the market.
10. Gateaux Bake Shoppe
There's something about cookies that make everything better. Gateaux only has three kinds – Happiness which is the classic chocolate chip cookie, Success which has milk chocolate chips and nuts and Freedom which is a red velvet cookie with white chocolate chips. Their cookies range from P100 to P120 for a pack of three and P330 to P360 for a box of 12.
