Slay the Buffet: Your Eat-All-You-Can Guide to Spiral, Sofitel Manila

When it comes to hotel buffets, a lot of people would agree that Sofitel Manila's Spiral would make it high - if not at the top - of everyone's must-try buffets in Metro Manila.

When it comes to hotel buffets, a lot of people would agree and say that Sofitel Manila's Spiral would come high – if not at the top – of everyone's list. And with its delectable spread and high-quality service, there really is no denying as to why it's tagged to be the "epitome of superior dining".

First opened in 2006, Spiral takes pride in its 21 ateliers – a French term which translates to "workshop" – spread across the 2,500-square meter area. Here, they not only let the guests choose from all the dishes they offer, but also let them see how it's cooked and prepared right in front of them.

Curious as to which dishes you should get first when you finally decide to try out Spiral? Here's a handy guide which gives you the highlights of the buffet's 21 ateliers, so you can start getting your game plan ready for the big cheat day!

Cheese Room

Something that you could probably never find anywhere else, Spiral's Cheese Room is a heaven for anyone who loves cheese. Guests get to choose from the different kinds of cheese they have available – from Brie and Comte to Queso Rustico and Blue Cheese. The cheese selection varies depending on when you're dining. They put on 10 kinds of cheese for the breakfast buffet, 12-15 for lunch, and 18 for dinner.

Also available in the Cheese Room are cold cuts which perfectly complement the cheese they have. Some of the cold cuts you can try here are the Salami Milano, Beef Pastrami, Rosette, and Jamon Serrano.

Salads and Appetizers
La Boulangerie

For starters, guests have their Salad and Appetizer atelier which lets them mix-and-match their salads, and have one of the staffs toss it perfectly for you. If bread's more of your kind of appetizer, though, you can head on over to La Boulangerie, where you get your fill of all the hand-rolled breads and the different kinds of spread they have.

Oysters, clams, crabs, and other seafood are the highlights of L'Ecailler. You can always go here for the freshest catch, and bring over your picks to the French section to have the staff cook them for you just the way you like it!

The Churrasco, on the other hand, boasts of their selection of roast meat. Their staples here include their Pork Ribs, Leg of Lamb, and Beef Short Ribs. Don't forget to season it with the herbs (which they import from Brazil!) and pair it with the sauces they have for you to best enjoy their meat.

Spiral's Asian Section is divided into different ateliers, depending on the cuisine. Start off with the Sushi and Sashimi station for your all-you-can-eat fill of nothing but the freshest sushi, sashimi, and nigiri, delicately prepared by the chefs behind the counter. They also have the Hot Japanese atelier, where you get to have your choice of meat and seafood, and have the chefs cook them on the teppan. You can also find your other Japanese favorites in this section, like tempura, katsu, and sukiyaki.

On the other side of the buffet is where you can find the Pecking Duck Oven, Chinese Wok, Steam Baskets, and Asian Noodles atelier. Here, you can try all the Peking Duck and Roast Chicken your heart wants, as well as dimsums like Hakaw, Siomai, Chicken Feet, and Spareribs. You can even create your own bowl of Laksa or Noodle Section by choosing everything from the broth and the noodles to the other add-ons you want in it!

They also have a ThaiKorean, and Filipino atelier where you can get anything from your own mix of Thai salad, Galbi, to Kare-Kare if you've been wanting a taste of home. There's also a North Indian section which lets you pick from a wide variety of selection tandoori-spiced meat, breads, and sauces.

For your fill of European cuisine, there's the French Stove which serves authentic and regional meat and seafood dishes. There's also a Wood Fired Oven which serves pizzas fresh from the oven, and a separate section where you can pick your choice of pasta and sauce, and have the staff prepare them to your liking!

No matter how full you already are, make sure to leave room – a lot of room, actually – for dessert! Spiral has 3 ateliers dedicated for anything sweet and for every kind of dessert-lover!

At the Chocolaterie, you get to indulge in artisanal chocolates, truggles, and pralines made fresh everyday. If pastries are what you're craving, then you can head on over to La Patisserie to have a taste of French pastries of all kinds, fillings, and sizes. They also make their own ice cream at the Creamery, where you could choose everything from the ice cream flavor (some of the flavors they have include strawberry, coffee, and ube) to the toppings you want on it.

However, if it's Filipino desserts you want, you can head on over to the dessert station and try creating your own version of halo-halo, a plate of freshly-cooked Puto Bumbong and Bibingka, even if Christmas is still a few months away.
