Colombo’s ‘Ministry of Crab,’ a World’s 50 Best Restaurant, Opens in Manila

The famous upscale seafood restaurant from Sri Lanka, its number one restaurant in the country (and ranked 25th in the World's 50 Best Restaurants 2018 list) is opening today in the Philippines.

In keeping with their promise of nothing but the best and freshest catch for all guests, Ministry of Crab Manila has a zero freezer policy — how's that for commitment? Everything must arrive fresh, all the time.

Crabs, of course, are the main draw: get ready to eat with your hands as they offer 10 kinds of crab sizes, starting from 1/2 Kilo Crab (500-600g at P1,800) to a gargantuan Crabzilla (2kg  at P11,250, P500 per 100g thereafter).


Ten cooking styles are available for the crabs, namely Pepper Crab, Chilli Crab, Curry Crab, Garlic Chilli Crab, Garlic Crab (non-spicy version), Garlic Pepper Crab (peppercorns replace Sri Lankan chilli flakes), Butter Crab, Baked Crab, Avocado Crab Salad, and Crab Liver Pate. The Pepper Crab is the restaurant's specialty, its signature sauce flavored with hand crushed and whole black peppercorns, the king of spice in Sri Lanka, and a pepper stock for a unique spice experience. Two Filipino style sauces have also been added: ginataan (coconut milk) and pinakurat (local spiced vinegar).

King Prawns of Philippines are also the highlight of their prawn selection, and you can try out seven kinds at the restaurant, from Black Tiger Prawns (P1,250/1/2 Dozen) to the massive Prawnzilla (P1,550/500-600g). A variety of cooking styes is also available for the prawns: Chilli Prawns, Pepper Prawns, Garlic Prawns, Garlic Chilli Prawns, Garlic Pepper Prawns, Olive Oil & Soy Prawns, and Butter Soy Prawns.

Some Filipino items found their way on the Ministry of Crab Manila menu, such vegetable sides like adobong sitaw, pakbet, and kangkong, a lumpiang ubod version with crab (P550), and a crab sisig (P750).

Ministry of Crab Manila is open daily for dinner starting January 16, 2018, from 6pm to 10:30pm.
