KBBQ lovers, if you're looking for something new to try that would be a bang for your buck, and is still able to satisfy your KBBQ cravings, here's something to add to check out the next time you go out!
Whether it's for barbecue or for a la carte Korean dishes that are authentic, Soban K-Town Grill has always been one of the go-to places for a lot of us. The restaurant, whose name translates to "small tray", is inspired by the Korean immigrant communities in Los Angeles and New York, and aims to serve bold, new, and delicious flavors to Filipinos using only the best cuts and kinds of beef, pork, and chicken.
While Soban does not offer unlimited meat, they make up for it with the quality of meat they serve and the kinds of group meals that are good enough to fill up even the hungriest of stomachs.
One of the group meals they have recently introduced is their Mega Meat BBQ Meal, which is good for 2 people and gets them over 2 kilograms of meat, served with unlimited rice and banchan for only P1000
A good way to start off a Soban meal – or any Korean meal, in general – is with their banchan. Here, Soban offers authentic, yet unique side dishes like the Pamuchim (Leek Salad), Gyeranmari (Egg Roll), Gamja Sarada (Potato Mash), Myeolchi Bokkeum (Roasted Peanuts with Anchovies), Kongnamul (Seasoned Beansprouts), and of course, homemade Kimchi.
For the main event, their Mega Meat BBQ Meal includes a large serving of Woo Samgyup, which is basically a plate of juicy USDA Choice Beef Belly. This meat is not marinated, so you get to enjoy its natural flavors. You can also try dipping it in one of the sauces they serve you to add more flavor to it!
The set also includes a large serving of thick-cut European pork belly for Samgyupsal. Just like the Woo Samgyup, their Samgyupsal is also tender and juicy, and you wouldn't really any marinade to enhance its flavors.
If you want your meat with cheese, you can also order it for an additional fee.
Aside from the large servings of meat, the set also comes with 2 small servings of either the Samgyupsal or Dak Galbi. While you can always go for the classic non-marinated version, you may also opt to try Soban's signature marinades, all of which are formulated in Korea. The marinades include: Fruity, Soy Garlic, Honey Spiced, Black Pepper, and Gochujang – some of which may lean on either the sweeter or the spicier side. The meat is soaked in the marinade overnight, so you can only expect all the flavors you can taste in every bite.
Fans of chicken can also try their Dak Galbi – US chicken thigh fillet – and Dak Ganjeong which is Soban's version of Korean fried chicken.
Pro tip: If you and your group of friends find the Mega Meat BBQ set too big for 2 persons, you can still choose to order for the set, and then try a la carte dishes, depending on how many extra persons will be eating. So if you're a group of 4, you can choose to have the set for two, plus 2 other dishes (We recommend their Dolsot Bibimbap and Kimchi Jjigae!), and you're good to go!
