Who just can't say no to good ol' burgers? Especially when it's cooked perfectly medium-rare to medium as its juices ooze out when you take your first big bite. Well, this doesn't really come off as a surprise since burgers have already been perfected by Todd English and have already been getting a lot of attention even before Pound opened their first branch in Bonifacio High Street.
Located in SM Megamall's Fashion Hall, Pound by Todd English opens a new branch which has two areas – the main dining hall which can only seat up to sixteen and where their kitchen is situated and a fifty-seater open area that's impossible to miss situated in the middle of the Mega Fashion Hall. The former is smaller and is reminiscent of the first branch with its ambience while the latter is brighter and more spacious with an industrial design, still equipped with their black and white floor and marble tables.
Start your feast with some crunch. For starters, order the Onion^3 (P90) which is their take on the classic onion rings perfectly seasoned and fried until golden brown to achieve a certain level of crispness, served in a cube shape with a side of spiced dipping sauce. There's also the Bacon Poutine (P210) with fresh cut fries drenched in homemade gravy, cheese and finished off with chunks of house cured bacon served on a hot skillet which makes it warm throughout your meal.
Pound is obviously a big fan of truffle and I'm definitely not complaining because I certainly am too. An instant favorite after trying for the very first time, the Truffle Fries (P160) is one of their best-sellers. It's a serving of fried potatoes seasoned with salt and truffle oil served with truffle ketchup for dipping. Other truffle favorites include the Truffle Risotto Tater Tots (P75) and Truffle French Beans (P120). Get this, visit their newest branch in SM Megamall from April 1 to 30 and avail of their $1 menu deals. You get all their best-sellers like the Truffle Fries, Onion Blossom, T.E. Slider and Pound Pomodoro for only a dollar!
You can also order wine by the glass at only P270! Choose from Beringer Zinfandel, Fortant Cabernet Sauvignon or Fortant Chardonnay to pair with your burger. If you want something fizzy and non-alcoholic, try the Ginger Ale (P180) which is refreshing and can serve as a great palate cleanser.
The Amsterdam Burger (P280) is one of the best-sellers at Pound. It has 100% house ground beef patty, fried onion, pastrami, gruyere, sauerkraut, mustard, relish, T.E. sauce sandwiched between two toasted homemade brioche bun. If you can't get enough of the gruyere, you can add more kinds of cheese – parmesan crisp, gorgonzola, white cheddar or yellow cheddar – for only P50! Feeling a little sinful? Order a side of Roasted Bone Marrow (P120) which you can slather on your already flavorful burger.
Now, I totally get why the Pound Foie Gras Burger (P700) has gained a lot of hype in the metro. It has the same house ground beef patty, slices of tomato, iceberg lettuce, crispy onion, mustard relish, T.E. sauce, caramelized onion, a 50-gram seared foie gras and just so you think you've had enough foie gras, they smear some foie gras mousse on top of the patty. Prepare for a one-of-a-kind explosion in your mouth when you take a big bite from this monster. Don't say we didn't warn you!
No meal would be perfect without dessert. Pound by Todd English only has one on the menu and that's the T.E. Sundae. It has a heaping scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream and I assume it's made in-house and then topped with some chunky OMG and Betty White brownies, drizzled with caramel sauce and rock salt.
