Feast on a P1,350 Seafood Platter at Dr. Wine's Sunday Brunch

Poblacion may be the busiest area in Makati and it's no surprise because of how diverse and interesting the offerings are in the area. From Japanese to Latin American food and an apartment-turned-bar to a quiet wine lounge, one can find almost everything there.

Tucked along Algier street is Dr. Wine, a French bistro giving Filipinos more activities to do on Sundays with their indulgent Seafood Platter and free-flow wine for their Sunday brunch.

What makes it so special, you ask? Resident Chef Julien Lecomte shares that Dr. Wine gets their razor clams, oysters and winkles from France and the lobsters from Maine. And who doesn't want to devour a beautiful seafood platter? There are four kinds of platters — Single (P1,350), Couple (P2,450), The Queen's Platter (P4,300) and The Dr. King's Platter (P6,950). We were served the Dr. Kings Platter which on the menu says it can serve four, but it could serve more.

The two-layer seafood platter is delicately and artistically arranged by their resident chef for an appetizing visual. The lower plate has an assortment of shellfish sitting on a bed of crushed ice — each shellfish blanched perfectly which results in a chewy but tender outcome.

Plump shrimp, mussels, clams, winkles, razor clams and a jar of salmon rillettes fill up the lower plate. If you're like me who was unfamiliar with winkles, it is a black snail-like shellfish which, when cooked, you have to pin and pull gently from the shell. I was honestly a bit surprised that this tiny shellfish packs a spiral and long body. The taste reminds me of clams but is meatier and giving you more bite.

Meanwhile, the top layer has a wonderful display of fresh oysters and lobsters. The Dr. King's Platter is supposed to have a whole crab but they ran out of it that day so they replaced it with more lobsters instead. The seafood platter is served with a basket of bread with salted butter and three kinds of sauces — the classic cocktail sauce, a vinegar-based, and mustard-based sauces — which are all made in-house.

Make sure you don't skip on the bread! If there's one thing we ate so much of, other than the seafood, it's fresh from the oven bread which they also make themselves.

What better drink to pair the seafood platter with than wine? Dr. Wine offers a free flow of wine from 12nn to 3pm for only P590. They also have a 1+1 promo for their Bloody Mary and Gin&Tonic.
