8 Places in Metro Manila Where You Can Satisfy Your Ube Cravings

About year ago, we saw the hype of everything ube-flavored rise as Pantone's Color Of The Year was the rich purple shade we associate with this sweet yam. This flavor has been a part of the Filipino culture pretty much forever, and we're definitely getting more creative in the ways we incorporate it in our food. Plus, ube continues to gain popularity in other countries, which gives us even more ways to enjoy it! Ube lovers, this list is for you - if you haven't tried these dishes and desserts around Metro Manila yet, you're missing out!

This next dessert from Bellefleur by Beatrix is a combination of two well-loved Filipino treats: ube and brazo de mercedes. Their Frozen Ube Brazo (P200/slice, P1200/whole) is the store's bestseller for a reason - the thick layers of meringue, creamy filling, and homemade ube ice cream with a graham cracker crust. It might seem a bit rich, but the sweetness is balanced and not overpowering that you'll be finishing a slice in no time. If you do want something on the sweeter side, though, the Ube Leche Flan is another popular Bellefleur dessert.

The Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Ube Waffle (P325) is just as delicious and filling as it sounds, and comes with bacon-infused maple syrup, salted egg sauce, and picked red onion on the side. All in all, this sweet and salty mix is one of the best selling and signature dishes of the restaurant - how could one ignore a plate that gives such a picturesque pop of color like that?

For a quick snack that you can enjoy any time, head to Scout's Honor for an ube cookie! The Gooey Ube (P95) is made with a soft, chewy homemade ube dough, filled with chunks of marshmallow and mango. It's a uniquely Filipino creation amongst the American Girl Scout-inspired cookies by Scout's Honor, and although one piece is enough to hit the spot, we wouldn't blame you if you couldn't help yourself to a second cookie. Keep in mind, this flavor is only available at their Hole in the Wall branch at Century City Mall!
