Cupcakes are like diet soda of cake lovers, only better – they’re your go-to dessert for when you’re wanting to appease your sugar cravings, but don’t want the commitment and calories that come with eating a slice of cake. Here, we list the top 10 cupcake stores you should definitely visit if you have a soft spot for this dessert.

1. M Bakery (Magnolia Bakery)

A royalty among cupcakes thanks to its iconic mentions in pop culture like Sex and the City and Saturday Night Live, M Bakery (also known as Magnolia Bakery) is one that lives up to its legendary status with its creations. The shop, which has opened its first branch in the country in 2018, offers a variety of sweets like cakes and cookies, but it is their cupcakes that are considered the star of the show.

M Bakery has become well-known for its pastel-colored, feed-ready creations, the most popular of which is their classic buttercream. The shop prides itself for being a ‘buttercream-only’ bakery, meaning it only uses their rich, whipped buttercream frosting for all their cupcakes and cakes. We love their Confetti Cupcake, an old-fashioned moist vanilla cupcake frosted with rich, buttery chocolate buttercream frosting with a dash of confetti sprinkles. Want to go for the classic? Their vanilla buttercream cupcakes which come in various designs and colors are just as great!

2. Cupcakes by Sonja

The cupcake craze in the country officially started with the opening of kiosks of Cupcakes by Sonja. For many, it's this homegrown brand that thrust this dessert in the limelight after its creations ignited interest and hype among the public. Several flavors of the shop have become regulars in the rotation of cupcake lovers since then – flavors like their classic Red Velvet and their very unique Lemon Drop. Cupcakes by Sonja has since expanded its products to include other pastries and sweets like doughnuts and cakes.

Vanilla Cupcake Bakery is everything you imagined a cupcake shop would be. It has wonderful interiors that seemed to have jumped out from those mini dollhouses we had as a child and an extensive collection of sweets that include cakes and pudding jars. Its cupcakes remain the highlight of their range, however, with flavors like Luscious Salted Caramel and Coco Cafe (a combination of coffee and chocolate) as some of their bests. Vanilla Cupcake Bakery also offers plated meals and coffee – you can even try their buffet if you have a bigger appetite when you visit.

Brownies Unlimited doesn’t offer as many flavors as other shops, but for the price of their cupcakes (P40 each), you already get more than what you pay for if you're looking for a quick sugar fix. Besides its brownies and cupcakes, the shop also offers coffee and brownie pizzas as well.

There’s something about the overall aesthetic of J Cuppacakes that makes it so appealing. Yes, their cupcakes are a bit on the ‘extra’ side, but not in the overkill way, especially when it comes to taste. Trying one makes you immediately feel familiar towards it, regardless if it's your first time tasting it or not. Case in point: The Give me S’more, their version of smores in cupcake form which is like campfire bliss in a bite. There's also the Vanilla Lemon Birthday cupcake which easily reminds you of your childhood birthday cake with its light, sweet, and tangy flavor.

Walking into The Flour Girl is like walking straight to dessert heaven. It has everything and anything your sugar-loving heart could ask for, from towering cakes to chunky cookies. Their cupcakes may take a backseat from all the delicious treats they offer, but that doesn’t change the fact that the shop still offers some of the yummiest and cutest mini cakes in town! The Flour Girl’s customized cupcakes are a sure hit to dessert buffets and table spreads, but they also have a constant rotation of flavors that are just as good. Their Classic Chocolate is every bit what you’re looking for in a chocolate cupcake – it’s moist, dark, and not so sweet. Their Chocolate Orange (it sounds weird, but we swear it tastes good!) is also a must-try.

The shop's customized creations are also regulars in parties and events, but their regular flavors receive just as much love. Their Ferrero Cupcake is worth every calorie with its rich hazelnut frosting that would make you want to reach out for one more (or two). We also love their Chocolate Chip Cupcake, a unique flavor that has a literal piece of cookie on top of its frosting.

One of the OGs of Maginhawa food strip is this humble but quirky cupcake shop established by a mom and her two sons. Cupcakes by Gremlins is the go-to place of those who want their sweets simple but with a dash of ‘special’. Their cupcakes may not be all that grandiose when it comes to the presentation but they are every bit delicious. We particularly love their classic Red Velvet and their fancier Hersheys cupcake. Cupcakes by Gremlins has already closed its physical store, but you can still order their little bites of heaven online!
