A Crayfish Party, also known as a kräftskiva, is a summertime tradition in Nordic countries. Originating in Sweden, these parties involve a wide array of Nordic dishes, alcoholic beverages, and copious amounts of crayfish. This tradition has spread to countries like Finland, Lithuania, Spain, and this year, the Philippines.
NordCham Philippines, in partnership with Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, is bringing this one-of-a-kind tradition to Manila for its sixth year. Head on over to the Harbor Garden Tent on September 8 for a unique celebration of the true Nordic! Here are a few things you can look forward to at Crayfish Party 2018:
A feast of Crayfish and other Nordic dishes
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila’s artisans will be showcasing one aspect of Nordic culture through a wide array of sumptuous Scandinavian specialties. Each table will have a beer tower, and there are various gin tasting bars available to everyone.
One of the dishes you can look forward to are Swedish meatballs with lingon berries, gently spiced and baked, served with brown sour cream gravy.
Another dish you can look forward to is Janssons temptation, a creamy potato and fish gratin.
If you’re a fan of seafood, you can look forward to the Salmon gravadlax with honey dill mustard sauce, a dish that is cured in salt, sugar, and dill.
One can also look forward to five kinds of herring dishes: pickled herring with cucumber, peppers, crispy garlic and capers, honey dill mustard, and pickled onions.
The main highlight of this event, of course, is the Crayfish with lemon wedges and dill leaves. This dish is usually brined in salt and dill, and boiled and soaked in dill flavor.
An authentic celebration of Nordic culture
Aside from the copious amounts of crayfish and other delightful Nordic specialties, The Crayfish Party invites you to get into the spirit of Nordic culture through a themed celebration! This year’s theme is centered around Vikings. The Harbor Garden Tent will be transformed into a Viking village, there will be singing, dancing, and games geared towards this theme.
To help get into the theme and the spirit of Nordic culture, everyone is encouraged to come in their best Viking ensemble! For sports fans, you’re invited to come in your favorite Nordic football jersey and celebrate!
A performance from The Bloomfields
No party will be complete without music, after all! Aside from food and drinks, the Crayfish Party will involve a lot of singing and dancing to Scandinavian sing-along music, as well as various games for everyone to enjoy.
This year, pop musical group The Bloomfields will be performing great musical hits in the Crayfish Party 2018. Sing and dance the night away as you’re serenaded with live music from one of the best bands in the country.
Contributing to a valuable cause
Not only are you having the night of your life as you celebrate the best of Nordic culture, you are also donating to a cause that helps the youth. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Chosen Children Village, a foundation dedicated to providing care, and homes for physically and mentally handicapped children.
