Deep-fried for an addicting crunch and finished with a sweet soy-based glaze, these Crispy Beef Strips will make you yearn for heapings of rice or a cold beer--or both.
Every visit to Din Tai Fungwill expectedly have you hungrily order a basket (or two, or three) of their famous xiao long bao, the soupy meat dumplings being their signature dish and very much their pride and joy. But tread a little further on their menu and you will discover delicious gems like surprisingly super tasty vegetarian dim sum, a solid selection of noodles (try the spicy ones!), and their lineup of Feature Dishes -- a selection of food that are exclusive to Din Tai Fung Philippines, so it makes it unique to the country and they all come highly recommended. Included in the feature dish lineup is the Crispy Beef Strips. If you've had crispy fried eel in some Chinese restaurants, this dish is rather similar to it -- thick strands of battered meat (it looks a little like tiny fried eels on a plate, doesn't it?), deep fried until super crunchy, you'd crave it as bar chow or hunker it down the good old Filipino way with loads of rice.
It's a plateful of the crunchy beef strips with a sweet soy sauce based glaze. The spice level is kept to a minimum, so add some chili oil or dip it just a bit on some black vinegar to give your every bite a sweet and sour kick. The strips are also cooked with slivers of onion and bell peppers. These bite-sized crunchies are rather irresistible, and you may find yourself spearing your chopsticks and digging for more and ordering another round -- if you can't get enough of it, try enjoying it on a weekday afternoon since it's included in Din Tai Fung's Afternoon Feast. For only P399 you can have unlimited servings of it from 2pm to 5pm, along with nine other dishes, for a filling merienda!
