It's been five months since Wolfgang's Steakhouse opened its doors in Manila and it has since been making noise in redefining the metro's culinary scene. Wolfgang's is rated as one of the best steakhouses in New York with nine branches across the United States, three in Japan and one in Seoul.
The steakhouse is named after Wolfgang Zwiener who opened his own restaurant after working as the head waiter of a well-known steakhouse in New York for more than 40 years. It was during those years where he learned about the dry aging process of USDA Prime quality beef as well as its high-temperature broiling process which is now Wolfgang's unique philosophy for excellence.
Keeping Wolfgang's tradition, its Manila outlet has incorporated the same design elements of the original location in the Vanderbilt Hotel which was built in 1912. The outlet at Newport Mall has a long mahogany solid wood bar, wooden planked floors, wooden wainscoting, alabaster chandelier hanging on their high ceilings and curved ceilings with tile borders.
Wolfgang's has an incredible lineup of starters like the Seafood Platter (MP, market price) which has a combination of jumbo shrimp cocktail, jumbo lump crabmeat cocktail and lobster cocktail. A perfect prelude to any main course is no other than the signature Wolfgang's Salad (P438) which features mixed greens, topped with plump shrimp pieces, string beans, cherry tomatoes, thick slices of bacon and doused with a housemade dressing.
The restaurant only offers USDA Prime beef which is dry aged in its own aging room under a controlled temperature for 28 days. During the dry aging process, the beef's natural enzymes break down the connective tissue in the muscle; at the same time, moisture is evaporated from the muscle creating a greater concentration of beef flavor resulting to enhanced tenderness and flavor in beef.
There are a number of reasons to dine at Wolfgang's especially because of their world-famous USDA Prime New York sirloin, ribeye, filet mignon and its signature Porterhouse (P5408/1kg; P8528/1.5kg; P11388/2kg) steak – all personally handpicked by Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, who choose only USDA Prime Grade Angus beef for superior marbling, tenderness, flavor and perfectly caramelized crust. A great way to end the stressful week is by giving yourself a little reward and indulging on their Prime Rib Weekends promo. It includes Au Jus, Horseradish Sauce, Creamed Spinach, Mashed Potato, three pints of beer and a huge slab of USDA Prime Rib that's good for sharing with up to four people (or more). Since the promo is based on MP per day, the prime rib ranges from P7000 to P9000 and depends on the weight of the meat (≈ 2kg).
