Now Open: ‘Koku’ Serves Sushi Pizza and Japanese Favorites at Salcedo Village, Makati

Sushi pizza, anyone? A new high-rise structure along Valero Street is home to new concepts and branches, like this restaurant specializing in Japanese comfort food catering to the Filipino palate

A new high-rise structure along Valero Street is home to new concepts and branches, like this restaurant specializing in Japanese comfort food catering to the Filipino palate.

Koku is now open at Two Central, located at the building's ground floor. Like your typical Japanese restaurant, they serve traditional fare and top hits like sashimi, sushi, maki, tempura, ramen, donburi, and teppanyaki. Adding something a little different to the mix are aburi dishes, food that are lightly torched to give some depth to the overall flavor. They serve Uni Aburi (P318) and Salmon Aburi Sushi (P288), but if you're seeking more familiar flavors, they offer California Maki (P218) and Mixed Sushi (P468) and Chirashi (P498) for your raw seafood with rice fix.

What makes this Japanese less traditional and more playful is its Sushi Pizza offering, where sushi rice patties are topped with sushi fillings, and they currently offer three types: California Pizza (P268), Spicy Tuna (P308), and Salmon and Cream Cheese Pizza (P328). Try newer flavor combinations in your japanese food like Oyster Papaya (P268) and pasta dishes with Japanese components such as Japanese Carbonara (P198) and Aligue and Kani Spaghetti (P288). End your meal with the classic Coffee Jelly (P138) ala mode, or Creme Brulee (P198) of lemon custard and served with ice cream.

Koku is now open at the ground floor of Two Central, 109 Valero Street, Salcedo Village, Makati City. The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 10pm. Call 625-5197, and follow Koku on Facebook and Instagram (@kokuph).
