I’m the kind of girl who tends to go a little mad when it comes to nail polish. Ever since my college days, I have been religiously painting my nails all sorts of colors because I feel like nail polish adds so much flair to my wardrobe. Just like the right kind of jewelry, the right color of nail polish can make a whole world of difference to any kind of look—poppy red nails with a black dress for a fancy dinner out or bright neon-colored nails for that much-awaited trip to the beach. The funny thing is that I’ve never really been attracted to any nail salon in particular because I wasn’t really keen on spending money for things I could actually do myself or have someone do for me for a small fee. When we received an invite from, the nail, face and art salon Beauty & Butter to try out their services, I jumped at the chance to see if this particular establishment could change my mind about paying to get my nails done. Sure enough, it did.
Quoting sales and marketing manager Kwey Landayan, Beauty & Butter was “created with the modern Filipina in mind”; it aims to cater to the young and the young at heart with its top-quality services and homey pop art-inspired interior. Landayan says, “Beauty & Butter is here to help express one’s individuality—to celebrate it, encourage it and to move it along—with beauty-enhancing services and products.” Their arsenal of services include foot spas, paraffin treatments, nail art, facials and hair depilation.
As soon as I arrived at the venue, I immediately fell in love with the pop art/retro interior. For someone like me who loves anything inspired by the roaring 20s, Beauty & Butter felt like a fantasy home away from home. The staff (look for Mariz in Megamall; she was the one who attended to me) asked me to sit and handed me one of the in-store iPads as a source of entertainment. This impressed me greatly because I don’t see this as part of the package in most establishments; Beauty & Butter is just as motivated to keep up with advances in technology the way it does with beauty treatments. There was even a TV on each wall of the room so that clients can watch movies while they are being attended to, which I found commendable because it shows that the customers are given great importance.
My friend and I were treated to the Foot Spa Paradiso (P550) with Manicure and Pedicure (P350). According to Miss Kwey, this type of foot spa is moisture-intensive and makes use of Cuccio Naturale products. Cuccio is a well-recognized brand in the spa industry because of the quality of its products, and we experience it first-hand when it was slathered on our legs before they were wrapped in cling wrap and inserted into some electric-powered sock-like things which made me feel warm and relaxed. The thing I love most about the Cuccio product that was used on us is that it has a great smell that amplifies the store’s already pleasant powder-like scent. Talk about an attack on the senses! For our nail polish service, we tried SpaRitual polishes (this is vegan-friendly!) for our toenails and Revlon Top Speed—a kind of polish excellent for women on the go because it dries quickly—for our fingernails.

Beauty & Butter is best known for its unique and vegan-friendly services. Their Gel Polish (P590) is a light-cured kind of nail polish that lasts longer than regular polish, which is perfect for busy women because the polish does not chip or stain the nails. Removal is also done at the store (P300) because the polish cannot be taken out with acetone. They also have Nail Tattoo (P300), a pre-designed water activated kind of nail art which gets the job done faster than hand-painted nail art. Their Organic Manicure & Pedicure (P700) is definitely a treat for vegans because everything from the nail polish down to the after-service hand lotion is 100% organic.
The establishment gives utmost importance to the quality of products that it uses and consigns with, so clients can be assured of high-quality imported brands that have been tried and tested in the beauty industry. They use use premium facial care products formulated for Asian skin, while they sell the Priori brand of mineral make-up. If a client so desires, the products used can also be purchased at the store.
I truly enjoyed my visit to Beauty & Butter; I felt that the atmosphere and the services of the establishment are well-suited to busy and creative people. I love its comfortable, relaxed vibe, and Miss Kwey herself was very accommodating and relatable due to her enthusiasm and love for what she does. So, if you’re a busy girl (or boy!) who is looking for a quick but rejuvenating pampering session, it is time to visit the Beauty & Butter branch nearest to you.
