History

The Pintados Festival was first celebrated in 1987 to honor the tattooed warriors of the pre-colonial era called 'Pintados'. It was later merged with the Kasadyaan Festival, which was started by a former governor in 1996. 'Kasadyaan' is a Visayan word for 'merriment'.

Cultural Significance

This 'Festival of Festivals' showcases the rich cultural heritage and history of Leyte. Participants, painted from head to toe in patterns that resemble the ancient tattoos, dance to the beat of native instruments, depicting stories and folklore from different municipalities in the province.
