The Kaamulan Festival started on May 15, 1974, as part of the local fiesta in Malaybalay. It was initially a small showcase of indigenous culture that gained national attention and was later established as a regional festival in 1977. The date was eventually moved to coincide with the founding anniversary of Bukidnon province on March 10.
Kaamulan comes from the Binukid word 'amul' meaning 'to gather'. It is an authentic ethnic festival that celebrates the customs and traditions of the seven indigenous tribes of Bukidnon: the Bukidnon, Higaonon, Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon, and Umayamnon. The festival features genuine tribal rituals, dances, songs, and traditional sports.
