About the Event

Still don't know where to go for the weekend? Here are the events and places to check out in the coming days.

The Kundiman Party
May 30 to 31 (The PETA Theater Center)

Acclaimed as one the most meaningful and relevant original Filipino plays in recent times, Floy Quintos’ “The Kundiman Party” comes to the PETA Theater Center for limited run starting May 24.

The play, directed by Dexter M. Santos was first produced by the UP Playwright’s Theater in 2018.  It was hailed by critics and audiences alike for the seamless weaving of our timeless Kundiman art songs into a plot that involved discontented millennials and Social Media, EJKs and other current political and social issues.

Whatever the results of this political exercise, the creators of the show believe this: That the outcome of the elections will be the start of a greater struggle, the beginning of a new chapter in the fight to regain our national dignity. Thus, “The Kundiman Party” and all that it stands for will be more relevant than ever.

Pista ng Pamana
May 27 to June 2 (Kalye Escolta, Escolta, Manila)

Join us at PISTA NG PAMANA this May 27-June 2, 2019! The HUB Make Lab family initiates and invites you to take part and take pride in this heartfelt showcase of the many rich facets of Filipino heritage—from art, literature, design, architecture, music, performance, food, fashion and celebration!

After three years that the HUB Make Lab has opened, we are broadening the view beyond our neighbourhood. Our aim for PISTA NG PAMANA is to make celebrations in the neighbourhood more meaningful, educational, and to be a beacon for future generations, highlighting the importance of preserving our country's tangible and intangible treasures. All together, we at the HUB Make Lab believe, these serve as the foundation for rebuilding and strengthening the Filipino spirit.

This celebration is a free public event which gathers experts and enthusiasts of different practices. It is a toast to the third anniversary of our maker community—HUB Make Lab, and a complement to the NCCA’s lineup of activities in museums, galleries, universities, and government institutions.

Artist Playground’s 'Laro'
June 1 to 2; 8 to 9 (Arts Above, West Avenue)

“LARO,” written by Floy Quintos with additional material by Miguel Castro, is an adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s “La Ronde” for 10 male actors. The play, consisting of 10 interlocking encounters between pairs of characters, tells the story of 10 characters from different walks of life. It explores their never-ending search for happiness and true love within Manila’s gay community.

The play was first produced by Theater Now!, the now defunct experimental arm of Bulwagang Gantimpala, in November 2004. There were six performances at the Gantimpala venue in Luneta and additional six performances at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Some cast members of the original production are Andoy Ranay, Peter Serrano, Juliene Mendoza, JoMari Jose, Miguel Castro, Neil Ryan Sese, and Roli Inocencio.

“LARO” will run on the first two weekends of the Pride Month for 8 shows only: June 1, 2, 8, and 9, with 3pm and 7pm on all show dates. It will be staged at Arts Above, Penthouse of West Venue Building (BIR), West Avenue, Quezon City.
